Prayagraj Mahakumbh 2025 The holy festival of Makar Sankranti became a historic moment. Sadhus and saints from 13 Akharas and 3.50 crore devotees took a dip of faith in Sangam and Ganga. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath gave information about this grand event by posting on the social media platform “X”. Describing this occasion as a unique confluence of Sanatan culture and Indian traditions, he congratulated all the people associated with the event.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath wrote in the post:

“Hearty congratulations to all the revered saints, Kalpavasis and devotees who took a dip of faith in the holy Sangam on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti in Mahakumbh 2025, the great gathering of faith, equality and unity. Today, on the first Amrit Snan festival, more than 3.50 crore revered saints and devotees availed the virtuous benefit of bathing in Triveni.

Unique festival of saints and sages

The Amrit Snan of Mahakumbh was started by the sages and saints of Shri Panchayati Akhara Mahanirvani and Shri Shambhu Panchayati Atal Akhara. In the morning, the sadhus of these Akharas took bath in the holy Triveni amidst deafening chants of ‘Har Har Mahadev’.

68 Mahamandaleshwar and thousands of sadhus took bath in the Sangam. Along with the devotees, this event is also a spiritual journey for the saints and sages. Mahamandaleshwar Chetangiri Maharaj of Mahanirvani Akhara said,

“Maha Kumbh comes after 144 years. This opportunity is very fortunate. Bathing in it destroys all sins and attains salvation.”

On January 13, the first day of Maha Kumbh, around 1.5 crore devotees from all over the world took a dip in the Sangam banks. This event of Prayagraj is the largest spiritual gathering in the world.

Estimated participation of 45 crore people

This event of Mahakumbh 2025 will run from 13 January to 26 February. Around 45 crore devotees are expected to come during this period. Apart from Makar Sankranti, there is also a possibility of huge crowd on major bathing festivals like Basant Panchami, Mauni Amavasya and Mahashivratri.

Fair area decorated with modern facilities

The administration has made unprecedented preparations to make the event of Mahakumbh 2025 smooth and grand. Spread over approximately 4,000 hectares, the fair’s arrangements for cleanliness, water, electricity, and transportation are extremely impressive. Apart from this, extensive arrangements have also been made regarding security. Police and disaster management teams are ready 24 hours.

Mythological and religious importance of Mahakumbh

Mahakumbh is organized every 12 years. This event becomes even more special when Mahakumbh comes after 144 years. According to the Puranas, during the churning of the ocean, drops of nectar from the Amrit Kalash fell at four places—Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik. This is the reason why Kumbh and Maha Kumbh are organized at these places.

Inclusion of technology in religious festivals

This time devotees are also experiencing modern technology in Mahakumbh. People from all over the world are becoming a part of this event through virtual darshan and live streaming.

Dedication of administration with saints and devotees

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath thanked all the institutions, fair administration, local police, voluntary organizations and sanitation workers for the successful management of the event. He said,

“Maha Kumbh 2025 is not only a symbol of the eternal tradition of India but it is also a source of spiritual inspiration for the entire world.”
