The Maharashtra government has started preparing to ban diesel-petrol trains in the Mumbai Metropolitan Municipality area due to increasing pollution. The state government has formed a committee of 7 members for this, which will submit its suggestions in the next 3 months.

According to the order issued on 22 January, retired IAS officer Sudhir Srivastava will lead the committee. It will have Transport Commissioner, Joint Police Commissioner Traffic, MD of Metropolitan Gas Limited, Project Manager of Power Distribution Company, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and Joint Transport Commissioner Member.

According to the order, this committee will also be able to include different experts in the panel for study. The Mumbai Metropolitan (MMR) also includes areas of neighboring Thane, Raigad and Palghar districts. That is, there will be study in these areas also regarding the ban on diesel-petrol vehicles.

Court instructions to BMC-MPCB

  • The court directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) that the city’s bakery using wood and coal begins to use gas or other green fuel in 6 months instead of a time limit of one year. Do

Diesel vehicles banned in 3 states including Delhi Diesel vehicles are banned in states like Delhi, Rajasthan, and Haryana. The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has completely banned a 10-year-old diesel car and a 15-year-old petrol-CNG car in Delhi.

Diesel is prohibited from running commercial vehicles more than 15 years old in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Kota in Rajasthan. Haryana is prohibited from running diesel vehicles more than 10 years old.
