Preparation to end Muslim reservation in the joint course of Jamia-Delhi University, CIC has prepared a proposal: DU officials said – there should be no reservation in any course on the basis of religion.

The Cluster Innovation Center (CIC) of Delhi University (DU) has prepared a proposal under which it will recommend ending reservation for Muslim students in the Master of Science (MSc) in Mathematics Education programme. The program was started in 2013 as a joint effort of DU and Jamia Millia Islamia and is operated under the Meta University concept. The governing body of CIC will consider this proposal in its meeting.

of reports according toAt present there are a total of 30 seats in this program. In this, 12 seats are for unreserved category, six seats are for Other Backward Class (OBC-Non-Creamy Layer), four seats are for Muslim General, three seats are for Economically Weaker Section (EWS), two seats are for Scheduled Caste (SC) and one seat each is for Scheduled Caste (SC). Reserved for Scheduled Tribe (ST), Muslim OBC and Muslim women.

A senior DU official Said“There should be no religion-based reservation for any course in the university. This policy should be limited to caste-based reservation only for the deprived sections.” The official also said that in the last few years, the entire admission process of this program has become computerized and admission of all students is done through DU only. In such a situation, it is natural to implement the reservation policy of DU.

Started in 2013, this program aims to integrate the resources and expertise of various universities in higher education. Under the Meta University model, this program is the result of a joint effort of DU and Jamia Millia Islamia. When students complete their studies, they receive a degree certificate with the logos of both universities on it. The administrative responsibility of this program rests with CIC and hence CIC believes that DU policies should be followed in it.

The DU official also said that when this program was started, it was decided that 50% of the students would be admitted from DU and 50% from Jamia. However, the current reservation policy does not match this initial agreement. According to CIC, this issue is now being taken seriously and after considering it the proposal will be placed before the Vice Chancellor.

Let us tell you that this program between DU and Jamia was to encourage the India-America Meta University concept, the objective of which was to provide better opportunities to the students. However, Jamia Millia Islamia has not yet responded to this matter. The specialty of this program is that it is the first degree program in India to have the logos of both the central universities. CIC said that this is an issue which will require the consent of both the universities to resolve it.
