Amritpal Singh is lodged in Dibrugarh jail in Assam since April 2024.
Khalistan supporter and MP from Khadur Sahib Lok Sabha seat of Punjab, Amritpal Singh has filed the first petition in the Punjab-Haryana High Court after the formation of the new party Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De). In the petition, Amritpal Singh said that along with watching the Republic Day Parade, he also attended the Parliament session.

Amritpal Singh has argued in his petition that his participation in the Republic Day and Parliament session is in the interest of justice and equality. He has described it as a symbol of democratic values ​​and the basic principles enshrined in the Constitution. He says that his presence in these programs of national importance is a matter of public interest.
Amritpal has demanded from the court that the concerned authorities should be asked to allow him to participate in these important programs. Being an MP, it is his constitutional duty to participate in the Parliament session and raise public issues in the Parliament. In the petition, Amritpal has made Government of India, Government of Punjab and others parties. However, the date of hearing has not been decided yet.
Three questions raised in Amritpal’s petition-
1. Cancellation of membership due to absence for more than 60 days- The petition states that if a member remains absent from the Parliament session for 60 consecutive days, his membership ceases. Amritpal Singh has been absent from Parliament for a total of 46 days so far.
2. Asked for permission to participate in the session of 30th November- The petition said that on November 30, a formal request was sent to the Lok Sabha Speaker, seeking permission to attend the Parliament session. A request was also made to DC Amritsar. But the reply has not come till date.
3. Being a public representative, it is his duty – Amritpal has said in the petition that being a public representative, it is his duty to attend the Parliament session and raise the issues of the people of his constituency.
New party formed on 14 January 2025 Amritpal Singh’s new party Akali Dal Waris Punjab De was announced on 14 January 2025 at the Maghi Mela in Muktsar. Amritpal was made the national president and a committee was formed to run the party.
Party leader Jaskaran Singh Kahan Singh Wala had said that 3 names were sent to the Election Commission for the party, in which this name was approved. This is a war between two ideologies. Delhi’s thinking is harming the sect and Punjab. Delhi’s thinking wants to plunder the waters of Punjab.

After the death of Deep Sidhu, the heir became the Chief of Punjab De Before becoming MP, Amritpal Singh was managing ‘Waris Punjab De’ organization. This organization was formed by Punjabi actor Sandeep Singh alias Deep Sidhu in September 2021. Deep Sidhu came into limelight when he spoke in English to the officer at Shambhu border during the last farmers’ protest. After this, Deep Sidhu was also the main accused in the case of disturbance at Red Fort on 26 January 2021.
After forming the organization, Deep Sidhu had said that its objective is to bring the youth on the path of Sikhism and awaken Punjab. Deep Sidhu died in a road accident while returning from Delhi on 15 February 2022. After this Amritpal Singh returned to India from Dubai and became the Chief of Waris Punjab De.
