Where did Pakistan attack in Afghanistan?

According to Afghanistan, on Tuesday night, Pakistani fighter planes carried out air strikes on some parts of Barmal district of Paktika province. At least 46 people, including women and children, were killed and many others injured in these attacks. Many houses were also damaged in these attacks.

Paktika is situated on the Durand Line, the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan. It is bordered by three districts of Pakistan. Paktika borders Job district of Balochistan province and South Waziristan and North Waziristan districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch says that this operation was conducted by Pakistan’s security forces on the basis of intelligence information in the border area of Afghanistan. He said that this campaign was launched in view of the threat to the security of Pakistani citizens. Pakistan said that it has always given priority to dialogue in matters related to relations with Afghanistan. Pakistan has said that it respects the integrity and sovereignty of Afghanistan. The spokesperson also said that Pakistani security forces and law enforcement agencies Regular operations are conducted against terrorist groups in the border areas. The spokesperson said that the safety of its citizens is Pakistan’s top priority.

Taliban government’s response

The Taliban government of Afghanistan lodged a strong protest against these air strikes against Pakistan. The Taliban government of Afghanistan has warned to respond to this attack. Inayatullah Khwarazmi, a spokesman for the Defense Ministry of the Afghan Taliban government, said that Afghanistan considers this action a violation of international principles and an attack.

What does Pakistan allege?

Pakistan has been continuously alleging that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) uses the soil of Afghanistan. It has also been alleged that terrorists coming from across the border target Pakistani security forces, Chinese and Pakistani citizens. The Taliban government of Afghanistan has failed to stop this. Pakistan has been saying that it has continuously given evidence to Afghanistan. But the Taliban government there has not taken any action. Due to this, these terrorist organizations are coming from Afghanistan and attacking Pakistan. It names its action taken in Pakistan as Azm-e-Istehkaam. In June this year, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif had said that Pakistan will continue to take action against Taliban bases in Afghanistan.

After Pakistan’s air attack on Paktika, Afghanistan says that it will avenge these attacks. After Afghanistan’s claim, news came that about 15 thousand Taliban fighters are moving from Kabul, Kandahar and Herat towards Mir Ali border in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. But no official announcement has been made by Afghanistan. In such a situation, the question arises whether Taliban has the capability to attack Pakistan.

military strength of afghanistan

Actually, there is no official information available about the armies of Afghanistan. But according to an Afghan general, their army and air force include one lakh seventy thousand soldiers. At the same time, before returning from Afghanistan on 31 August 2021, American and NATO forces had damaged their military planes, helicopters and other equipment. Pakistan’s English newspaper ‘The Express Tribune’ had published a news about the Afghan army on 25 November 2022. According to this news, America and its allied forces had given 70 military ships and helicopters to the Ashraf Ghani government of Afghanistan. All these have been repaired by the Afghan Air Force. These ships and helicopters are being used by the Afghan Air Force.

Afghanistan has also acquired some more modern weapons. Soldiers of elite units of the Afghanistan Army can be seen with these weapons. The Afghan army has those weapons, ammunition and vehicles which were left behind by American and NATO forces while returning. There is doubt whether Afghanistan will be able to attack Pakistan through these, because Pakistan has all three armies equipped with all types of modern equipment. However, there is a fear that the Afghan Taliban may carry out some attacks in Pakistan through Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Afghanistan publicly denies its relations with the TTP, but the relations between the two are not hidden from anyone. The new Taliban government of Pakistan uses TTP as a proxy.
