The accused used to work at the toll plaza During STF interrogation, Alok told that he is MCA pass and earlier used to work at toll plaza. From there he came in contact with the companies taking the contract for the toll plaza. After this, a software was created with the connivance of toll plaza owners. Installed my own software in the NHAI computer installed at the toll plaza, which I accessed from my laptop. IT personnel of toll plaza also supported in this.

He himself has been involved in this rigging for the last two years in Azamgarh, Prayagraj, Baghpat, Bareilly, Shamli, Mirzapur and Gorakhpur of UP.

This is how tax is collected at toll plaza

Tax is collected in two ways at NHAI toll plazas across the country.

1, From Fastag: Vehicles fitted with Fastag are caught by the sensor installed at the toll and money is deducted from the account.

2. cash counter: There is a separate counter at the toll plaza for vehicles which do not have Fastag or which have any kind of exemption. There the tax money is collected in cash. A slip is given for this.

They were rigging like this The accused used to rig the recovery from the cash counter only. Tax was collected from vehicles without Fastag from the toll plaza using software made by the accused. His printed slip was similar to the slip obtained from NHAI software. In this way, the vehicle recovered illegally was shown as tax exempted and allowed to pass.

On an average, 5% of the toll tax collected from vehicles without Fastag is collected from the genuine software of NHAI, so that no one has any doubt.

That means the tax collected from vehicles without Fastag is not going into the government account. Whereas as per rules, 50% of the toll tax collected from vehicles without Fastag has to be deposited in the account of NHAI.
