Prime Minister Narendra Modi was presented a memento to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das during a ceremony held on 1 April 2024 in Mumbai.
Former RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das was appointed as Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister of India on Saturday.
In the notification issued by the Appointment Committee in the Central Government, it was said that the appointment of Shaktikanta Das has been approved as Principal Secretary-2 of the Prime Minister. His appointment will continue with the tenure of the Prime Minister or till further orders.
The tenure of former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das ended on 10 December 2024. Shaktikanta Das was made RBI Governor on 12 December 2018. His tenure was later extended for three years. In 75 days of retirement, he reached the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
Apart from Das, the Prime Minister has another principal secretary named PK Mishra. He is a 1972 batch IAS officer from Gujarat cadre.

Banks contribute to reducing NPA and increasing profits During Das’s tenure, the non-performing asset of the country’s listed banks, ie NPA, came to a low of 2.59% by September 2024, while it was 10.38% in December 2018. During this period, the profitability of the banks also booured and the banks recorded a profit of Rs 2.63 lakh crore in FY 2023, while in FY 2018, banks had a loss of Rs 32,400 crore.

The government has appointed Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra as the new Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI). He will be the 26th Governor of the RBI and will replace the current Governor Shaktikanta Das.
Das’s term is being completed on 10 December 2024. From December 11, Malhotra will take over as Governor. The cabinet today approved Sanjay Malhotra’s appointment on 9 December.
