Indian players taking part in the practice session
Mohammed Shami Fitness: Mohammed Shami has returned to the Indian squad for the five T20 and three ODI series against England. He has been selected in the squad for Champions Trophy 2025. Shami last played an international match for India in the year 2023. Since then he is out of Team India due to injury. Due to not being completely fit, he did not even get a chance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Now his eyes are on playing for Team India after a long time. The first T20 match between India and England will be played on January 22 at Kolkata and it is considered completely certain for Shami to play in it.
Shami bowled for more than an hour
When the Indian team gathered here on Sunday for its three-hour practice session before the opening match against England, all eyes were on fast bowler Mohammed Shami. Shami bowled in full rhythm for more than an hour. Wearing a heavy bandage on his left knee, Shami, under the supervision of bowling coach Morne Morkel, initially bowled slowly with short run-ups and then increased the pace with full run-ups. He also took part in fielding practice after bowling for about an hour. There were doubts about Shami’s fitness. He allayed any concerns by troubling young batsmen like Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Verma with his pace and precise line length. Now he is completely fit and is bowling well.
Dhruv Jurel used aggressive strokes against Shami
During this, wicketkeeper batsman Dhruv Jurel made some aggressive shots against him. After finishing bowling practice, he talked to bowling coach Morne Morkel. Shami’s inclusion in the T20 squad is an important step as the team looks to strengthen its pace attack ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy starting in Dubai and Pakistan on February 19. The situation regarding Jasprit Bumrah’s injury is not clear yet, hence Shami’s fitness is important for India’s plans. Shami has made a place in the national team after returning from domestic cricket. He also participated in Ranji Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy followed by Vijay Hazare ODI Trophy.
Left arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh did not participate in this practice session. He will join the team on Sunday night. An Indian team official said that Arshdeep will join the team this evening. Apart from him the entire team is here. The England team led by Jos Buttler decided to rest on Sunday. The team will participate in its first practice on Monday.
