The war of words between the film’s co-producers Karan Johar and Divya Khosla had intensified regarding the box office collection of Jigra. Hema Committee report came out from Malayalam industry
The film industry has always been accused of making immoral demands from women in exchange for work in the industry. The ‘Hema Committee Report’ was brought keeping in mind the safety of women Malayalam film artistes. In 2019, a 3-member committee was formed under the chairmanship of retired Justice Hema to research every point related to the safety of women in the industry regarding unethical demands from women artistes. The main function of the committee was to investigate complaints of sexual exploitation of women in the Malayalam film industry and suggest measures to prevent such incidents in future. Through the committee, the issues faced by women artistes in the Malayalam film industry were studied and important details related to sexual harassment, exploitation and abuse were given. After the 233-page report went viral through RTI, many shocking facts also came to light from the regional industry. Not only was AMMA dissolved but many Malayalam actors were also sent to jail.
Kangana Ranaut’s emergency entangled in film certification
Bollywood actress and Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut’s film ‘Emergency’ was scheduled to release on September 6. However, the film was postponed indefinitely after it did not receive a certificate from the CBFC. It all started when the trailer of ‘Emergency’ was released and a religious group from MP approached the High Court over the inappropriate portrayal of the Sikh community. Later the makers of this film had to reach a consensus with the censor board and they agreed to cut three controversial scenes from the film. Now this film will be released in January 2025.
Nayanthara-Dhanush controversy
Nayanthara’s documentary ‘Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale’ was released on Netflix on 18 November. Due to this documentary there has been a dispute between the two stars. Nayanthara, in a letter written on social media post, had revealed that Dhanush had demanded Rs 10 crore for alleged copyright infringement as the documentary included BTS footage from their production ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhan’. Nayanthara wrote this letter on November 16, when the actor sent her a legal notice. Taking aim at Dhanush, he wrote, ‘You have the support of your father and brother. We all know that cinema is a fight for survival for people like me, because I have no godfather in this industry. I have struggled to reach where I am today. I will give credit for this to my work.
‘Pushpa 2’ Stampede
‘Pushpa 2’ actor Allu Arjun has created and broken many records with his recent releases. However, the actor’s film is also embroiled in the Hyderabad stampede case. Not only this, the National Award winning actor had to stay in jail for a night in connection with the stampede during the screening of the film ‘Pushpa 2’ at Sandhya Theater in Hyderabad on December 4.
