After the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand, it will not be easy to marry anyone. The UCC Act mentions 74 such relationships with which neither Nikah nor can they be with them in live-in relation. If you do this, then Maulanas/priests have to tell about this. What is the meaning of live-in in the UCC Act?
Explain that the live-in relationship in Uttarakhand is defined as a relationship in which a man and a woman live in a common house, which is similar to marriage. Some special rules have been made to give legal recognition to this relationship. For example, registration of live-in relationship is mandatory and it has to be done within a month. People for this 16 pages form will fill.
If the couple wishes, he can issue certificates from the heads of their community and use it for registration. During the live-in registration, applicants are asked if they fall under the category of relationships in which relations are prohibited. If they come, they are asked if they allow such marriage between their customs couples. He is then issued a certificate by the heads of the community. After this, in the next phase, the registrar has to briefly check this certificate and further decisions are taken.
UCC came into force in how many years
It is noteworthy that UCC in Uttarakhand has come into force from 27 January 2025. A lot of preparations were made in the past to implement this law in the state. On 27 May 2022, the Uttarakhand government constituted an expert committee headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai. After this, more than 60,000 people living inside and outside the state discussed in detail in 70 different forums. Later, a report of more than 700 pages was prepared, which was submitted to the Government of Uttarakhand on 2 February 2024.
