Special Report: The seat of Delhi which gave CM for 27 years, this time too the contest is interesting.

New Delhi:

The Election Commission has announced the date regarding Delhi Assembly Elections. There are many seats in Delhi on which everyone is keeping an eye. However, the most special among them is New Delhi Assembly seat. On this seat, the sons of two former Chief Ministers are in a political fight with former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. BJP’s Pravesh Verma and Congress’s Sandeep Dixit are giving tough political competition to Arvind Kejriwal. Voting will be held in Delhi on February 5 and the results will come on February 8.

Why is New Delhi seat special?

Lutyens Zone is considered the heart of Delhi and the center of power of India. The bungalows of powerful people from the corridors of power including Rashtrapati Bhavan and Prime Minister’s residence are here. Lutyens Zone comes in New Delhi Assembly. This is the reason why this high profile assembly seat is discussed the most in Delhi politics. This seat first came into limelight because of Sheila Dikshit.

  • Sheila Dikshit had won in 1998
  • Sheila Dikshit was MLA thrice i.e. till 2013
  • Then Arvind Kejriwal defeated Sheila Dikshit
  • Now Arvind Kejriwal has been MLA for the last three times.

Interesting political contest every time

New Delhi Assembly seat has given the Chief Minister to Delhi for 27 years, but this time the political contest on New Delhi Assembly seat is very interesting. Three-time Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is facing Congress candidate Sandeep Dixit who wants to avenge the defeat of his mother Sheila Dikshit, while on the other hand, former Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma’s son Pravesh Verma is also in the political field against Kejriwal. However, Arvind Kejriwal’s victory record on New Delhi Assembly seat has been the best till now.

  • In 2013, Arvind Kejriwal defeated Sheila Dikshit by about 26000 votes.
  • In 2015, Kejriwal defeated BJP’s Nupur Sharma by more than 30,000 votes.
  • For the third time i.e. in 2020, Kejriwal’s victory margin was around 20 thousand votes.

Bungalows nearby, but long political distance

This time the biggest challenge before Kejriwal is anti-incumbency and corruption allegations. However, Arvind Kejriwal describes himself as staunchly honest in his rallies and targets the Center and says that now preparations are being made to send Atishi to jail.

There may be a huge political distance between Arvind Kejriwal and Pravesh Verma, but they are each other’s neighbors in New Delhi. Kejriwal’s bungalow is at 5 Firozabad Road and barely a hundred meters away from here is Pravesh Verma’s bungalow.

Former BJP MP Pravesh Verma is also engaged in a political front from this bungalow against Kejriwal. Pravesh Verma, son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, is counted among the flamboyant BJP leaders. He is on the target of Aam Aadmi Party by launching Ladli Brahmin Yojana at his level even before the election announcement. This is the reason why there is a crowd of women inside and outside his house. He shows inside his house and says that I am not helping women secretly.

The third candidate for New Delhi Assembly elections is Sandeep Dixit. To avenge the defeat of his mother Sheila Dikshit, Sandeep Dikshit is highlighting Kejriwal’s failure and his mother’s work through a door-to-door campaign. On this basis he is saying that the competition against New Delhi will be good.

The giant bowing his head at the Valmiki temple

There is a Lord Valmiki temple in the New Delhi Assembly, where all the political stalwarts pay their obeisance. This is the Lord Valmiki temple, where in 2013 Arvind Kejriwal started his political campaign by sweeping. It was from this temple that Prime Minister Narendra Modi started his Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in 2014.

With the help of Lord Valmiki temple, the leaders keep their eyes on the 12 safe seats of Delhi. Due to this, no matter who was in power in Delhi, the importance of Valmiki temple continued to increase. People around the Valmiki temple and elsewhere speak openly about the functioning of the government and their problems. Some people said that unemployment is an issue for us, our children are roaming around and there are no jobs.

What do the voters of New Delhi seat say?

One person asked that Kejriwal has been in power for ten years, but what happened. Another said that there is talk of giving Rs 2100 to women, but no one will give it. We don’t even need it.

Most of the New Delhi Assembly falls in the VVIP area. Due to this, electricity, water and cleanliness are not issues here. Despite this, the eyes of people across the country are on the results of New Delhi Assembly, because the sons of two former Chief Ministers are engaged here to politically siege former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
