Afghanistan Cricket Team: Afghanistan has to play a series of three ODIs and three T20 matches against Zimbabwe in December and now the Afghanistan Cricket Board has announced the squad for both the series. Star off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman has returned to the team. He was out due to a hand injury. Earlier, he was seen playing in the Abu Dhabi T10 League in November. Batsman Zubaid Akbari has got a place in Afghanistan’s T20 team for the first time.
Zubaid Akbari performed brilliantly
For some time now, whenever Zubaid Akbari has got a chance. He has caught it with both hands. He was successful in impressing everyone with his play in the Emerging Asia Cup T20 tournament and was the second highest run-scorer for Afghanistan-A. Then he scored 137 runs in four matches at a strike rate of 131.73. He may also get a chance to debut, because the injured Ibrahim Zadran is not included in the Afghan team. He got injured against England. Now his ankle has undergone surgery and he is recovering.
Emerging Asia Cup won under the captaincy of Darvesh Rasooli
24 year old young player Darvesh Rasooli has also got a chance in the team. It was under his captaincy that the Afghan team won the Emerging Asia Cup title. He has played 7 T20 International matches for the team, in which he scored a total of 51 runs. He played his last T20 International match in January 2024. Whereas young spinner Noor Ahmed has been selected only in the T20 team.
Chief selector said big thing for young players
ACB interim chief selector Ahmed Shah said that it is a great feeling to see spinner Mujeeb ur Rehman recovering from his injury and becoming available for selection. He is an important member of our team and we hope he continues to perform well for Afghanistan. Zubaid Akbari and Darwish Rasooli have been performing consistently not only in domestic cricket but also in the recently concluded ACC Emerging Teams Cup, where Afghanistan won the title.
