At the New Delhi railway station, 17 people died of a stampede at around 9:26 pm on Saturday, out of which there are 3 children. More than 10 people are injured. Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital (LNJP) has confirmed the death.
According to the news agency ANI, there was a stampede in the huge crowd after the announcement of changing the train platform. The train was shifted from platform 12 to 16. Meanwhile, people started running footover to go towards platform 16 and stampede.
At the same time, some media reports told that the accident happened due to crowds on platform numbers 13 and 14. It is being told that 2 trains going to Mahakumbh were late. This is why the crowd increased and stampede.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has tweeted and mourned the incident. At the same time, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has ordered an inquiry into the incident. However, before this, CPRO (Chief Public Relations Officer) of Northern Railway denied the stampede. He had said that there was no stampede, it is just a rumor.
At the same time, according to the Railway Ministry, the Railway Police and Delhi Police have reached the station. The situation is under control.
Earlier on January 29, 30 people died in Mahakumbh in Prayagraj. At the same time, on 10 February 2013, there was a stampede at Prayagraj station during Kumbh. 36 people were killed in the accident.
