I have been porter since 1981. I never saw such a crowd. Prayagraj Special 12 was to leave 12 platforms, then made it from number 16. Meanwhile, when the public came from outside, there was a stampede. There were few people of the administration. I myself took 15 bodies to ambulances.

- There was a crowd of people visiting Kumbh for two weekends, but the station administration did not build any control room. On Saturday too, the crowd started growing from 7 pm, but no one paid attention.

Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay said that ‘Magadh Express going towards Patna at the time of the incident was standing on platform number 14 of New Delhi railway station. The North Sampark Kranti leading to Jammu stood at platform number 15.

The Railways has announced a compensation of 10 lakhs to the families of the deceased, two and a half lakhs to the seriously injured and one lakh rupees to the injured.
