Success through kitchen gardening in Haryana: Earning of Rs 3-4 thousand from a plot of 100-200 yards, desi cow is a condition for government help – Karnal News

52 people of Haryana have not only kept themselves healthy by doing kitchen gardening but are also earning money. She is also earning Rs 3 to 4 thousand every month by gardening in 100 to 200 yards of land. At the same time, they also get pure vegetables without pesticides and chemicals.

These people came into limelight when they were invited to Delhi for the National Organic Production Program of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. Where these people doing Nutritive Kitchen Gardening (a garden where nutrition-rich fruits, vegetables and herbs are grown for home use) were also honored by Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat on Thursday (January 9). Haryana government also provides help in this regard. But, for that it is necessary to buy a local cow.

Progressive women farmers were called to Delhi for the National Organic Production Program of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.

1. Kitchen garden in 100 yards, earning 4 thousand per month Reena of Aungad village of Karnal has done natural farming in a 100 yard plot of her house. She grows turmeric and other vegetables in this kitchen garden. Reena tells that she has been involved in this for 2 years. Vegetables are eaten at home while turmeric is processed and sold.

One and a quarter kilo of turmeric comes from the root of one plant. Due to which they earn an income of Rs 3 to 4 thousand. Reena says that we do not use any pesticide or chemical in it. We have taken training on vermicompost. Let’s put that in it.

2. 2 thousand rupees spent on vegetables, selling turmeric for Rs 600 per kg Surendra Kumar, a resident of Bastada, says that he has been doing kitchen gardening in a 200 yard plot for the last 4 years. His vegetable expenses of Rs. 2 thousand are left every month. He says that I have also planted turmeric here. Raw turmeric is sold for Rs 120 per kg.

After grinding, it is easily sold for Rs 600 per kg. This turmeric does not spoil for 3 years. We do not use any pesticides in this. Just by mixing Jeevmrit i.e. cow dung, water, local soil etc. they make fertilizer and use it. There are 14 units installed in the village.

3. Stopped buying vegetables from the market Shanta Devi of Barota village says that I have been doing organic farming for 4-5 years. Turmeric, coriander, fenugreek, spinach, cabbage and other types of vegetables are planted in a plot of about 150 yards. In this, instead of pesticides, bio-fertilizer is made. I have done this to eat vegetables at home because pesticides are used in market vegetables, so I have stopped buying them.

4. Turmeric costs Rs 250 in the market, we are selling it at Rs 600 per kg. Bala Devi of Hasanpur village tells that I have prepared turmeric through natural farming methods. The price of turmeric in the market is Rs 250 per kg but I am selling it at home at Rs 600 per kg. Kaushal and Reena Devi of the same village have also done tomato cultivation along with kitchen gardening. Both the women also took training in mushroom cultivation in December 2024. Now its production has also started.

Apart from this, it also provides assistance of Rs 3,000 for purchasing 4 drums of fertilizer. He said that any person can start a kitchen garden with 50 yards. Apart from this, people doing natural farming also have to pay incentives for branding and packaging of their products.

Marketing is necessary for this on a large scale Dr. Rajendra Singh says that the state government is running the Haryana State Rural Livelihood Mission. Through which most of the women have adopted nutritious kitchen gardening. However, it requires marketing on a large scale. Through which they can be directly connected to the market.
