New Delhi:
Have you ever wondered how much it can cost to go into space and return from there? You will be surprised to know that the price of a passenger’s seat in SpaceX’s crew-drain spacecraft is so high that it can eat an entire city for weeks, thousands of luxury cars can be purchased, or ISRO of India can complete many space missions, so let’s tell you how much the cost of this journey is.
How much is the price of a seat of crew-dragon?
Many big projects can be completed in as much as a passenger has to spend to return from space. The crew of SpaceX has a seating area of six passengers. The fare of each seat is about 55 million dollars i.e. about 460 crores. This amount is so big that it can complete many of its space missions of India. A city with a population of 10 lakhs can eat food for 20 days, if it spends Rs 250 per day per person. Thousands of luxury cars can be purchased. Also, a large industry or a luxurious colony can be made in India in this amount.
SpaceX and NASA contract
SpaceX received a contract of $ 2.6 billion (about Rs 21,600 crore) under NASA’s commercial crew program in 2014, including six crew missions. An average costs $ 400 million, or about Rs 3,300 crore per mission. Now know whose fare is high in SpaceX and Boeing.
SpaceX vs. Boeing – Whose fare is more?
SpaceX is charging relatively cheap fare. According to the report of NASA’s Inspector General in 2019, SpaceX charges $ 55 million per seat. The fare of Boeing Starlineer – $ 90 million i.e. about 750 crores per seat.
How much is the cost of the entire mission?
The total fare of the four seats of SpaceX’s crew-9 mission is about 220 million dollars i.e. about Rs 1,840 crore. However, the cost of the entire mission is not included in it. Other expenses included include Falcon 9 rocket launch, maintenance of capsules and technical aspects of fuel and ground operations and ISS from docking and withdrawal from ISS. According to different reports, the total cost of a crew mission is 200 to 300 million dollars i.e. between 1,670 to 2,500 crore rupees. Since SpaceX does not publicly share its financial statements publicly, it is difficult to tell the accurate figure of its earnings.
However, under NASA’s contract, SpaceX gets $ 55 million per seat. If four passengers went to the crew-9 mission and two are returning, then the fare will be charged according to four seats. SpaceX’s Space Travel expenses are shocking. It not only exposes space exploration, but also an important aspect of the use of global economy and resources. When the price of a seat can cause such a large scale expenditure, the question arises whether the future of space travel can be more cheap and accessible?
