The Supreme Court stayed the municipality’s order allowing worship at the well near Jama Masjid in Sambhal. Also issued a notice to the UP government and asked for a status report within two weeks.

The municipality had declared it a public well. The mosque committee had gone to the Supreme Court against this on January 9. On Friday, the bench of Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar gave its verdict on the petition of the Mosque Committee. The next hearing in the case will be on February 21.
It is being told that earlier people of Hindu community living nearby used to come here to worship the well during marriages. At present the administration is carrying out excavations at various places in Sambhal. Meanwhile, the municipality declared this well as public, after which the Muslim side feared that this well might also be dug.

Survey of Jama Masjid was done on 19th November Regarding Jama Masjid, the Hindu side claims that it was earlier the Harihar Temple, which Babar demolished in 1529 and converted it into a mosque. A petition regarding this was filed in Sambhal Court on 19 November 2024. On the same day, Civil Judge Senior Division Aditya Singh ordered a survey inside the mosque. The court appointed Ramesh Singh Raghav as Advocate Commissioner. The same day, the team reached the mosque for survey at 4 pm. Did a survey of 2 hours. However, the survey was not completed that day.
After this, the survey team reached Jama Masjid on 24 November. Survey was being conducted inside the mosque in the afternoon. During this time a large number of people gathered. The crowd threw stones at the police team. After this violence broke out. Four people died due to bullet injuries.
The survey report was filed on January 2 On January 2, the 45-page survey report of Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal was filed in Chandausi Court. 4.5 hours of videography and more than 1200 photographs were also given to the court. It was claimed that evidence of the existence of a temple in Jama Masjid has been found.
More than 50 flowers, marks and artefacts have been found in the mosque. There are 2 banyan trees inside. Banyan tree is worshiped in Hindu religion. There is a well, half of it is inside the mosque and the other half is outside. The outer part has been covered.
The old structure has been replaced. In places where there are old structures, evidence of new construction has been found. Temple structures like doors, windows and ornate walls have been painted with plaster. Inside the mosque, where there is a big dome, the chandelier has been hung with a chain tied to a wire. Such chains are used to hang bells in temples.

What is the controversy of Jama Masjid of Sambhal? The Hindu side has been claiming for a long time that there was a temple on the site of Sambhal’s Jama Masjid. On November 19, 8 people reached the court regarding the matter and filed a petition. Among them, Supreme Court lawyer Harishankar Jain and his son Vishnu Shankar Jain are prominent. Both of them are also looking into the matters of Taj Mahal, Qutub Minar, Mathura, Kashi and Bhojshala.
Apart from these, the petitioners include the names of lawyer Partha Yadav, Mahant Rishiraj Giri of Banana Temple, Mahant Dinanath, social workers Vedpal Singh, Madanpal, Rakesh Kumar and Jeetpal Yadav. The Hindu side claims that this place used to be the Shri Harihar Temple, which was demolished by Babar in 1529 and converted into a mosque.
The Hindu side filed a petition in the Sambhal court. In the 95-page petition, the Hindu side has made the basis of two books and a report. These include Baburnama, Ain-e-Akbari book and a 150-year-old report of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
