Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has raised questions on the playing-11 of the Indian team in the Sydney Test. The former spinner said- ‘Team India should not be selected for the England tour based on the height of the players. The selectors should decide that senior players should participate in county cricket.
Harbhajan also advocated for big players to play domestic cricket. The Indian team lost the Sydney Test against Australia by 6 wickets in two and a half days. Due to this the team had to lose the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after 10 years.
Questions raised on keeping 2 spinners in the last match Harbhajan said that Jasprit Bumrah suffered a back injury before the second innings. They couldn’t play. In such a situation, the responsibility of defending the modest target of 162 runs was on the shoulders of Mohammad Siraj and Prasidh Krishna. Prasidh was playing the first match in this series. There was no point in including two spinners in the playing eleven on the Sydney pitch.
Ravindra Jadeja bowled just three overs in the match, while Washington Sundar bowled just one over at the end of the second innings. If there was a seamer in the team, the situation could have been different.
Also criticized Rohit and Virat for not scoring runs Harbhajan criticized the runs scored by Rohit and Virat in the series. He said that both these players were out when the team needed them.
Gavaskar targeted the coaches after the match A day earlier on Sunday, veteran batsman Sunil Gavaskar had targeted the coaches of the Indian team. While talking on Star Sports, Gavaskar had said-
What was your coaching staff doing? Look at your bowling coach, batting coach…batting coach, the way he was all out for 46 runs against New Zealand. After that, the way we lost in the remaining matches, the way our batting had no strength. Here too there was no strength in batting. So the question should be asked, brother, what did you guys do? Why is it not visible in improvement?
Gavaskar said-
There were so many good balls that our batsmen could not cope. That reason is correct, there is no problem if there is a good bowler and a good ball. Even the greatest players face problems when a good ball comes. But when that is not happening then tell me what have you done? In the future they will ask whether they should be fed, they should be fed, I ask that we should also ask whether we should keep this coaching staff going forward?
