Chennai:
The Tamil Nadu police on Monday detained the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Tamilisai Sundararajan for protesting against the alleged Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited (TASMAC) scam. After being detained by the police, Sundararajan said during a conversation with the media, “They are arresting me from my residence, I will not go separately. I want everyone to come with me.”
Heavy police force deployed outside Sundararajan’s house
A heavy police force was deployed outside his residence in Chennai. Earlier in the day, Sundararajan said that everyone has the right to protest on any issue. Talking about the alleged TasMac scam, he said that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has revealed irregularities of Rs 1,000 crore in Tasmac. He said that the BJP had planned a peaceful protest on this issue.
We will fight for people …
Tamilisai Sundararajan said, “Everyone in the country has the right to protest against anything. The ED has revealed that TASMAC has irregularities of Rs 1,000 crore and in this regard, we have announced a peaceful movement. But they have surrounded us. We have not scared such custody. Criticizing the budget of the Tamil Nadu government, it was disappointing, directionless and insensitive to the needs of the people.
Annamalai attacked Senthil Balaji
Along with this, he alleged that the budget ignores the important needs of the people and imposes a growing debt of Rs 9.3 lakh crore on the state, which makes Tamil Nadu the highest debtor in the country. On Friday, Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai attacked state minister V Senthil Balaji and called him a leader who was involved in “every scam”.
TASMAC scam is bigger than Delhi liquor scam
While adamant on his sources, Annamalai claimed that the TASMAC scam is more than one thousand crore rupees, while the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader Balaji questioned the moral right to continue as a minister. Annamalai told reporters, “I have my sources. I believe (corruption) is more than a thousand crore rupees. Senthil Balaji is involved in every scam, he is the kingpin. The Supreme Court has questioned whether he has moral right to remain a minister.” Describing Balaji as the “liquor minister”, the BJP leader said that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin reinstated Balaji as a minister as soon as he was released from jail. Annamalai said that the TASMAC scam is bigger than the Delhi liquor scam.
