The three -day “Pusa Krishi Vigyan Fair 2025” organized by the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi was inaugurated today by Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chauhan. On this occasion, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ramnath Thakur, Director General of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Director of IARI Dr. C.H. Srinivas Rao, Deputy Director General Dr. D.K. Yadav, including Yadav, and a large number of farmer siblings, agricultural scientists, agricultural entrepreneurs, representatives of startups, food processor etc. were present.
In the inaugural speech, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that agriculture is the backbone of the Indian economy, the soul of farming is a farmer. To fulfill the resolve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are continuously working in the field of agriculture. I am also a farmer, my field has pumpkin, capsicum and tomato. When crop bumper comes, prices fall several times. I also cultivate flowers, cultivate wheat and paddy. I am not such a farmer that I am a minister, I have become a sir, I try to reach my field twice a month.
Shivraj Singh Chauhan congratulated ICAR and said that the varieties shown today are a big achievement in itself. Scientists are working hard day and night. He said that we have a 6 point strategy. Number one is increasing production. The most important thing to increase production is good seeds. ICAR is doing the work of making good seed variety. We are trying how good seeds reach the farmers. For breeder seed, foundation seed, we should find out how they reach the farmer. Science and farmer will have to be added to deliver seeds. Lab to land, we have started an experiment modern agricultural chaupal. He directed ICAR to take this work in his hand. The modern agricultural chaupal will do ICAR from next month.
Shivraj Singh said that the second major work is to reduce the cost of production. Increased production reduces costs. There are many schemes in this regard. He informed that on February 24, the Prime Minister will send funds to the farmers’ account under the Kisan Samman Nidhi in Bhagalpur.
The Union Agriculture Minister told that tomorrow I will go among Makhana producers in Bihar, how to sow Makhana, he will see. Earlier I went among betel nuts. Now I saw the integrated form in Pusa. One hectare had fisheries, poultry, pond.
Shivraj Singh said that we have to arrange the cost of farmers. The limit of Kisan Credit Card has been increased from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. This will benefit the fruit vegetable farmer. He told that the third task is to give a good price for production. For this, MSP has been continuously increased. The government will buy the wheat of the farmer, the government, lentils, urad, tuar will be purchased. The production of these things will increase when they get good prices. Where the farmer sells, there is cheap and Delhi becomes expensive if he comes to Mumbai. Right now the rates of tomatoes have reduced. We have planned that the Central Government will pay the cost of transportation through Nafed, so that the farmer gets the right price.
Union Minister Shivraj Singh said that if the rate of soybean decreases, then the import duty on the oil coming from outside was reduced to 27.5%. There was a ban on rice exports, we removed it and reduced export duty. We are doing workouts about what is between the middle profit, that is needed.
Shivraj Singh said that I meet farmer organizations regularly, I will go to Kurukshetra today, will also go to Chandigarh. I get suggestions from farmers. Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh told him that the price of red chilli has come down. We decided that we will allow the red chilli to be purchased under the MIS scheme. Similarly, the fourth major function is that when the crop is bad in natural disaster, we help the medium of Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Scheme. The loan that farmers get, it has increased from Rs 7 lakh crore to Rs 25 lakh crore.
Shivraj Singh invited the farmer brothers to give the suggestion that we will workout. He said that developed India will become only when agriculture will be advanced. The new Variety which has been demonstrated today, will try to reach the farmer as soon as possible.

He told that when I made a plan for the farmer in Madhya Pradesh, I made a sitting between the farmer. I will get down in the puddle of Makhana tomorrow and see how Makhane is cultivated. Union Minister Shivraj Singh said that there was a time when India had to eat PL 480 wheat from America, while today India is filling the stomach of many countries. Shivraj Singh said that one more thing is that there should be no thing in our country, preparations for elections are going on 5 years, 12 months. Elections of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan were not held throughout the year, then Lok Sabha elections, then Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana elections and then Delhi’s riots. In the preparation of this election, all the work gets stalled, Prime Minister, Minister, Chief Minister, officials are all engaged in elections. Long -term planning is not possible. If it is amended and decided that all elections will be held at once, then how will it be? Come, take a pledge in this farmer fair that Lok Sabha and Assembly elections should be held once in five years, so that all people can be engaged in the service of the public.
