On the police’s argument that law and order was deteriorating, the farmers’ question was that how can 101 farmers become a problem for law and order. Can’t 101 farmers protest in Delhi for their rights in the world’s largest democracy?
At the very time when the Constitution was being discussed in the Parliament of the country on completion of 75 years, at the same time, just 200 kilometers away from here, the rights of 101 unarmed farmers who wanted to come to Delhi on foot to talk about their rights in a democratic manner, were being trampled. Even in cold weather, water cannon, tear gas and pepper spray were being used on them. Shambhu Border was a battlefield like the India-Pakistan border. The farmer was appealing to the police to give them democratic rights, calling them his food providers. It is shameful that the police, speaking like the ruling party in the Lok Sabha, was refusing to accept him as a farmer.
The character of the ruling party, which was swearing to follow the path of the Constitution in the Parliament of India, was being exposed on the Haryana-Punjab border. The date of 14th December will also be remembered for this reason. Shambhu border remained a battlefield for about 2 hours. In the cold weather, the water cannon kept running continuously on Annadata. All limits were crossed in this. Farmers were continuously targeted by the torrent of dirty chemical-laden water of Ghaggar river, which they were struggling to escape. Some of the pictures were disturbing. In such cold weather, water was being rained on them. A large number of tear gas shells were released on the farmers, due to which the farmers kept getting injured. His companions kept picking up these injured farmers and putting them on the ambulance. There came a time when the number of injured became so high that not a single ambulance was left at the spot. Farmers had to use their carts to carry the injured. Even media people were not spared. Even tear gas shells were fired on the farmers gathered in the fields. Kisan-Laborer Sangharsh Morcha chief Sarwan Pandher said that expired tear gas shells were fired at the farmers. About a dozen farmers were injured and were taken to Rajpura hospital.
A farmer swallowed sulfas. Chilli spray was also used continuously on farmers. The surprising thing is that the police were not ready to accept the farmers as farmers. Perhaps how could it even dare to go beyond the definition set by the ruling party regarding these agitating farmers. Police were saying that your aim is not to go to Delhi for talks. Your aim is to disrupt law and order. He did not have the answer to how 101 unarmed farmers who wanted to go to Delhi on foot could become a problem for law and order. The deployment of state and central police forces has been increased at Shambhu Border. The police front has also been strengthened with permanent cemented barricades over the Ghaggar river. Like the national border, the Punjab-Haryana border has been strengthened at Shambhu Border. A few farmers cannot cross these barricades under any circumstances. Even in this situation, no one is able to fathom the extent of the brutality inflicted on the farmers by the BJP government’s police in the shivering cold.
Like on 6th and 8th December, at 12 noon, a group of 101 farmers tried for the third time to go to Delhi. The farmers reached the concrete police front and requested to let them go to Delhi. On the argument of not having permission from the police, the farmers said that they had applied to the Modi government of Delhi and the Center for permission to come to Delhi, but no response has been received.
On the police’s argument that law and order was deteriorating, the farmers’ question was that how can 101 farmers become a problem for law and order. Can’t 101 farmers protest in Delhi for their rights in the world’s largest democracy? After all, the world should know what the Modi government is doing to us. What is the condition of democracy in this country? The farmers said that we are honest and peaceful protestors. It is a question of our agriculture, farming and crops. As if the government was giving arguments there through the words of the police. Police started saying that the court has formed a high power committee to talk to the farmers. On this, the farmers said that no high power committee can give us a legal guarantee of the minimum support price of crops. When our crops arrive in the markets, they are sold at throwaway prices. When this crop goes to middlemen, it is sold at many times the price. This increased money should come into the farmer’s account. The farmers were appealing to the police saying that you are also the children of farmers. Let us go to Delhi.
On the matter of maintaining the status quo at Shambhu border, the farmers said that the court had also asked to give 4 feet path to the farmers to go to Delhi, to which the police did not have an answer. When this thing was happening, DC was also present there along with senior police officers. It is shameful that tear gas shells were fired on the farmers in his presence. The water cannon started working. In the end, after a struggle between the farmers and the police for about 2 hours, the third batch was also called back. Now anger is increasing among the farmers. The serious condition of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who is on his deathbed at Khanauri border, is becoming another reason for anger. The presence of a large number of farmers at the Shambhu border on 14 December was confirming this. The apprehension of some untoward incident is clearly visible among the farmers. If the BJP government riding on the victory chariot after winning the Haryana elections does not take precautions then it will be completely responsible for the situation.
