The second phase of the budget session of Parliament will start from today.

New Delhi: The second phase of the budget session of Parliament is going to start from today. It is expected to confront the issue of ‘EPIC’ between the government and the opposition. At the same time, the opposition is planning to raise issues such as alleged rigging in the voter list, the latest incident of violence in Manipur and India’s stance in dealing with the Trump administration. The government’s attention will be on obtaining the approval of Parliament for grant demands as well as completing the budgetary process, getting approval for the Manipur budget and passing the Waqf Amendment Bill.

Finance Minister will present Manipur’s budget

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will also present the budget of Manipur on Monday. N. President’s rule is applicable in Manipur from February 13 after Biren Singh resigned as Chief Minister. At the same time, the opposition said that it is preparing to surround the government on the issue of repetition of voter photo identity card (EPIC) number. The Trinamool Congress has played a leading role in raising the issue, after which the Election Commission has said that it will take corrective steps in the next three months.

TMC will raise the issue of manipulation in voter list

The Election Commission rejected the Trinamool Congress claim that voter lists have been manipulated so that voters from other states could vote in West Bengal. The Election Commission also clarified that some voters’ voter ID cards can be “equal”, but other details like demographics, assembly constituency and polling stations are different. Leaders of Trinamool Congress will meet the Election Commission officials on Monday. He has also united opposition parties including Congress, DMK, Shiv Sena (UBT) to raise the issue in both houses of Parliament during the second phase of the budget session.

Waqf Amendment Bill will be introduced

At the same time, it is a priority for the government to pass the Waqf Amendment Bill soon. The Joint Committee of Parliament presented its report on the bill in the Lok Sabha amidst heavy opposition from the opposition. Issues such as fresh violence in Manipur, threatening to impose mutual fees by US President Donald Trump, political uproar over the delimitation of parliamentary constituencies are also expected to arise in Parliament. The first phase of the budget session of Parliament lasted from 31 January to 13 February, while the second phase will start from 10 March and run till April 4.
