Naiduniya Representative, Indore. Protest against burning of Union Carbide’s toxic waste has intensified in Pithampur. State Cabinet Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya held a meeting of public representatives of Indore and Dhar in this regard on Thursday. Members of MGM Alumni Association, general public and leaders were also present in it. Vijayvargiya assured that no final decision will be taken regarding burning of garbage in Pithampur without the consent of the public and public representatives. The public need not be afraid of this toxic waste. I also had many misconceptions regarding this, but the officials resolved them. If there is any doubt in the minds of the public or public representatives then it is necessary to resolve it.
In the meeting, Dhar MLA Neena Verma strongly opposed the burning of garbage in Pithampur. He said that no compromise can be made with the health of five lakh people of Pithampur. If garbage has to be burnt then it can be taken away from Pithampur and burnt at some other place. In the meeting, the general public also expressed displeasure over burning of garbage in Pithampur. The question also arose as to why the side of the people of Indore, Dhar or Pithampur was not presented in the Supreme Court. Cabinet Minister Tulsiram Silavat, MP Shankar Lalwani, Collector Ashish Singh, Divisional Commissioner Deepak Singh, Municipal Commissioner Shivam Verma etc. were present in the meeting.
Vijayvargiya said – I did not know that the trial was done.

Scientists say that its toxic effects automatically disappear within 25 years. Porwal told in the meeting that in the year 2013, 10 tonnes of garbage was brought from Kerala and burnt in Pithampur as a trial. After this, in the year 2014, 10 tonnes of Union Carbide waste was brought and burnt. The reports of both these trials were given in the Supreme Court. Both the reports were positive. On this, Vijayvargiya said that 10 tonnes of garbage from Bhopal was brought to Pithampur and burnt and I did not know about it.
Report will have to be given daily
Porwal also said that reports on garbage burning will be sent to the Central Pollution Control Board on a daily basis. It will be continuously checked to ensure that there is no harmful poisonous gas in the smoke generated by burning garbage. Before shifting the garbage, 59 fixed parameters were studied. Boring was done at 17 places and testing was done on 37 parameters. The water was not found contaminated.
