Let us tell you, Shreyas Iyer has recently been made the captain of Punjab Kings for IPL 2025. Earlier, Iyer had led Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL. Where under his leadership he also gave the team the title of 2024. After Gautam Gambhir, Iyer became the first captain to make Kolkata win the IPL title.
There was speculation about Shreyas Iyer’s future with Kolkata after IPL 2024 and the franchise had given a message of not retaining him for the next season. After this, Punjab Kings included him in their team by making a record bid of Rs 26.75 crore in the players auction.
Shreyas Iyer will work with Ricky Ponting in Punjab Kings, with whom he has previously worked in Delhi Capitals. Delhi Capitals reached the 2020 IPL final with Ponting as coach and Iyer as captain. On becoming the captain of Punjab Kings, Shreyas Iyer said, “I am honored that the team has reposed its trust in me. I am looking forward to working with coach Ponting again. The team looks strong, with potential. “And we have a great mix of proven players. I am hopeful that we will live up to the confidence shown by the management and win our first title.”
Shreyas Iyer’s eyes will now be on the ODI series against England and then the Champions Trophy. This right-handed batsman led Mumbai to the finals in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Apart from this, he was a part of the Mumbai team that won Ranji Trophy and Irani Trophy. Apart from this, he played an unbeaten century against Puducherry in Vijay Hazare Trophy.
