‘This will give ownership rights to the people…’, said PM Modi while distributing property cards.


New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed property cards under the Swamitva scheme and interacted with the beneficiaries through video conference. During this, PM Modi said that today is a very historic day for the villages and rural economy of the country. After 65 lakh cards were distributed today, now about 2.24 crore people in the villages will have ownership property cards. The ownership scheme was started 5 years ago, so that the people living in the villages could be given their legal proof. In the last 5 years, approximately 1.5 crore people have been given these ownership cards. Today, more than 65 lakh families have received these ownership cards under this program.

PM Modi attended the event in virtual mode, while 13 Union Ministers took charge on the field. In the 12 states where these cards were distributed, more than 50 thousand villages in 230 districts are included. Now property cards of more than 2 crore people have been prepared.

Big challenge of the 21st century- Property Rights

Describing the importance of property rights, PM Modi said, ‘In the 21st century world, there are many such challenges like climate change, water shortage, health crisis, epidemic… but there is another big challenge before the world and this challenge Is- Of property rights. Many years ago, the United Nations had conducted a study regarding real estate in many countries of the world. This study revealed that in many countries of the world, people do not have solid legal documents for their property. The United Nations clearly said that if poverty is to be reduced, then it is very important to have property rights.

Mapping of lands in every village of the country done with drones

Attacking the Congress party in a few gestures, PM Modi said, ‘Earlier governments did not take any concrete steps in this direction. Therefore, when our government was formed in 2014, we decided to tackle this challenge of property papers and we started the Swamitva Yojana. We decided that with the help of drones, mapping of house lands will be done in every village of the country and the people of the village will be given papers of their residential properties.

Referring to Gram Panchayats, PM Modi said, ‘Today our government is sincerely trying to bring Gram Swaraj to the ground. Planning and implementation of village development is now becoming much better through Swamitva Yojana. Now by getting property rights, the problems of Gram Panchayats will also be solved and they will also become financially empowered. This will also make it easier to get proper claim in case of disaster.

What is Swamitva Property Card Scheme?

The SVAMITVA scheme was started in April 2020, whose full name is Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas. Its objective is to provide ownership rights to properties to the villagers. Till now 31 states and union territories have joined this scheme. Now property cards of more than 2 crore people have been prepared.
