Naiduniya Representative, Ujjain (Mahakaleshwar Temple). Crowd control arrangements at the Jyotirlinga Mahakal temple are being reviewed after the death of six devotees in a stampede on Wednesday in the race to get a token for Vaikuntha Dwar Darshan in the Tirupati Balaji temple of Andhra Pradesh.
People associated with the temple system say that after the expansion of the temple, there is no situation of public pressure at the time of general darshan. The competition to sit in the front during the Bhasma Aarti at 4 am and the rush to get out after the Aarti is over creates a chaotic situation, which can lead to an accident any day.
Every day permission is issued to 1700 devotees.
Bhasma Aarti of Lord Mahakal is performed every morning at 4 am in the Jyotirlinga Mahakal temple. The temple committee issues permission to about 1700 devotees every day to visit it. There is arrangement for the devotees to perform Bhasma Aarti by sitting in Nandi, Ganesh and Kartikeya Mandap.
Different mandapams are allowed
The temple committee issues permission to the devotees for different mandapams. At 3.30 am, after checking the permission letters, the staff allows the devotees to enter the temple. After this, the devotees sit in Nandi, Ganesh and Kartikeya Mandap as per their eligibility and have darshan of Bhasma Aarti.
there is a fear of an accident
Permission is issued by the temple committee in the name of Nandi, Ganesh and Karthikeya Mandapam. Only darshan permission is issued to the devotees, they are not allotted seat numbers to sit like in train or bus.
So when devotees are allowed entry into the temple, they jostle to sit in the front. The same situation is created in the hurry to get out of the temple after the aarti is over. In such a situation, an accident can happen at any time.
Competition to get offline form also
An accident took place in Tirupati Balaji temple on Wednesday during the competition to get the token for Vaikuntha Dwar Darshan. In Mahakal temple also, 300 people are given free offline permission to perform Bhasma Aarti every day.
For this, forms are distributed from the counter located near the Nandi gate of Mahakal Mahaloka at 8 pm. Hundreds of devotees stand in queue to collect the form. There is competition among these also to get the form. This situation can also cause an accident.
