Today In History 10th January: Although every date has some history, but the history of 10th January is very important in many ways, especially for Hindi lovers because this day is World Hindi Day. Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh had announced to celebrate Hindi Day on January 10 every year in 2006 for the promotion of Hindi. With the aim of developing Hindi in the world and promoting it as an international language, World Hindi Conferences were started and the first World Hindi Conference was held in Nagpur on 10 January 1975. That is why, this day is celebrated as World Hindi Day. On 10 January 2024, the Supreme Court of Pakistan upheld the death sentence awarded to late former military ruler General Pervez Musharraf by a special court in 2019 in a treason case. Musharraf, the architect of the Kargil war in 1999 and the last military ruler of Pakistan, died in Dubai on February 5, 2023 after a long illness. 79-year-old Musharraf was undergoing treatment for ‘amyloidosis’ in Dubai. He had been living in self-exile in the UAE since 2016 to avoid prosecution in his country. On December 17, 2019, a special court had filed a treason case against Musharraf for his “unconstitutional” decision to impose emergency in November 2007 during his tenure with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party. The former military ruler was sentenced to death.

- 1940: Indian playback singer and classical musician K. J. Birth of Yesudas.
- 1946: Representatives of 51 nations participated in the first meeting of the United Nations General Assembly in London.
- 1969: Death of famous politician and writer Sampurnanand.
- 1972: After being imprisoned in Pakistan’s jail for more than nine months, Sheikh Mujib-ur-Rahman reached Bangladesh which became an independent nation.
- 1974: Birth of Indian actor Hrithik Roshan.
- 1975: Organization of the first World Hindi Conference in Nagpur.
- 1987: The first boat expedition to circumnavigate the world was completed in Bombay.
- 2003: North Korea withdrew from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
- 2006: The then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced to celebrate January 10 every year as World Hindi Day.
- 2013: 100 people died, 270 injured in several bomb blasts in Pakistan.
- 2020: Central Government issued notification for the Citizenship Amendment Act.
- 2022: A Myanmar court sentenced Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi to four years in prison for importing and possessing walkie talkies and violating coronavirus restrictions.
- 2023: 13 people died in anti-government protests in Peru.
