Today In History 21st January: The date of January 21 is recorded with many incidents in history. This day is important in the federal history of India because on this day three states namely Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura came into existence. It has been five decades since the northeastern states Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura became separate states. Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura were given the status of separate states on 21 January 1972 under the North-Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) Act 1971.
The sequential details of other important events recorded till date in the history of the country and the world are as follows:-
- 1924: Labor Party government was formed for the first time in Britain. Party leader Ramsay MacDonald became the Prime Minister of the country.
- 1924: Death of Vladimir Lenin, who led the Bolshevik Revolution and was the first head of the Soviet Union between 1917 and 1924.

- 1950: Death of famous English writer George Orwell after a three-year long battle with tuberculosis.
- 1958: Copyright law came into effect.

- 1963: Death of Shivpujan Sahay, a well-known novelist, story writer, editor and journalist of Hindi literature.
- 1972 – Establishment of Manipur and Tripura states.
- 1976: Concorde, a supersonic commercial aircraft built with financial cooperation between France and Britain, started regular service. After this, there was a competition in the world to build high-speed planes.
- 1983: Death of the first Indian Admiral RD Katari.
- 1996 – In the first historic general election of autonomous Palestine, Palestine Liberation Organization leader Yasser Arafat was elected by receiving 85 percent of the votes.
- 1996: About 340 people died when a boat full of passengers sank near the Sumatra coast of Indonesia.
- 2008: India launched an Israeli spy satellite and successfully placed it in the polar orbit.
- 2009: A pilot died in the accident of Air Force training aircraft Surya Kiran in Bidar, Karnataka.
- 2023: Nine people injured in two explosions in a busy area on the outskirts of Jammu.
- 2024: At least 13 people killed in a missile attack on a market in Russian-occupied Ukraine.
