Today in history 8th March: On the occasion of Women’s Day, along with sending greetings messages to their relatives, friends and associate women, preparations for giving cards, chocolate, flowers and other gifts are in full swing. However, very much people are not aware of why and when the International Women’s Day is celebrated.
In fact, in the year 1908, the tradition of celebrating Women’s Day started due to a women’s laborer movement. On this day, 15 thousand women demonstrated in New York city demanding reduced job hours, better salary and some other rights. A year later, the Socialist Party of America declared this day the first National Women’s Day. In the year 1910, there was an international conference of working women in Copenhagen, in which it was suggested to celebrate this day as International Women’s Day and gradually the day became popular worldwide as International Women’s Day. This day was recognized as International Women’s Day in 1975.

  • 1702: After the death of King William III of England, Queen Annie took power in Britain.
  • 1921: Spain’s Prime Minister Eduardo Dato Interaart was murdered out of Parliament House.
  • 1930: Mahatma Gandhi launched a Civil Disobedience Movement against the British rule for India’s independence.
  • 1942: Japanese forces capture Rangoon city of Burma during World War II.
  • 1953: Birth of Vasundhara Raje. She was the Chief Minister of the Bharatiya Janata Party government in Rajasthan for ten consecutive years.
  • 1971: US boxer Joe Fresier defeated former champion Mohammad Ali and won the world heavyweight title again.
  • 1985: 80 people killed and more than 175 injured in a car bomb blast near a mosque in Beirut. People gathered in the mosque for namaz at the time of the accident.
  • 2014: A Malaysia Airlines aircraft went missing from Kualampur to Beijing, which could not meet despite a million attempts. The aircraft had 227 passengers and 12 members of the crew. Efforts to find it were closed in 2017.
  • 2020: Outbreak of Corona virus increased. The number of cases around the world reached 1,05,800. Virus reached about 95 countries. Its 80,695 cases in China alone. The number of infected in India reached 39.
  • 2024: Former Honduras President Juan Orlando Hernandez was convicted in New York for conspiring with drug smugglers and bringing several tons of cocaine uninterrupted to America with the help of his military and police forces.
  • 2024: Theresa May, who was the Prime Minister of Britain from 2016 to 2019, announced that she is retiring from electoral politics.
