Elon Musk has met Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations. This meeting between the two took place a day before the billionaire businessman was made the new joint head of Donald Trump’s cost cutting department. CBS News, quoting unnamed sources, reported that the meeting took place at the residence of Ambassador Amir Saeed Iravani in New York, the purpose of which was to discuss ways to reduce tensions between the two countries. It is not clear from the report whether Secretary of State nominee Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Walz, who are staunch opponents of Iran, were aware of the meeting.
The New York Times reported that according to two Iranian officials the meeting was ‘positive’. Musk has emerged as a potential backroom negotiator for Trump, who has promised to end the Middle East and Ukraine conflicts.
