Tunnel accident in Telangana, 8 employees stranded: 10 meters part fell in the middle of the tunnel; NDRF team entered inside the tunnel

A part of the SLBC (Srisailam Left Bank Canal) tunnel collapsed on Saturday morning in the Nagarakurnaul district of Telangana. This caused 8 people to get stuck in the tunnel. The accident occurred 13 km from the entry point of the tunnel.

According to ANI, about 10 meters of the roof of the tunnel is demolished. About 50 personnel were working at the time of the accident. Many time left the tunnel, but the workers running the tunnel boring machine (TBM) got stuck. These include two engineers, two machine operators and four laborers.

The tunnel work was stopped for a long time. It started again four days earlier. In the case, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after talking to Telangana CM Revanth Reddy and knowing the situation and assured all possible help.

The construction company’s rescue team and the NDRF team have entered the tunnel. State Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy said;-

Our government is making every effort to save the lives of all eight people. We have also contacted the experts involved in the Uttarakhand rescue operation.

CM said- officers have been sent on the spot

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed grief over the incident. According to the Chief Minister’s Office, he is engaged in relief rescue work by reaching the spot by the District Collector, Fire Brigade and Irrigation Department.

Road and Building Minister Komatyreddi Venkat Reddy said in a statement, “The accident occurred due to slipping concrete on the seepage on the 14th kilometer inlet (near Domalpanta) of the tunnel from Srisailam to Devarakonda.”

KTR attacked Congress government Taking a dig at CM Revanth Reddy, BRS Executive Chairman KT Rama Rao (KTR) said that Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy should take full responsibility for the SLBC tunnel accident.

Earlier in August 2024, there was an incident of retaining wall in the Sunkashala and now the accident. This clearly reflects the failure of the Congress government.

He alleged that such accidents are happening due to collusion with contractors and poor quality work.

Retaining wall fell in Sunkashala in August Earlier on 1 August 2024, the retaining wall collapsed at the Sunkashala located near Nagarjunasagar Dam in Telangana. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) held the Congress government responsible for the incident and demanded a judicial inquiry.

At the same time, the Congress retorted that this project was built at a cost of Rs 2,215 crore under BRS regime and the wall was collapsed due to poor quality.
