Udaipur. There was an uproar over the coronation ceremony among the descendants of Maharana Pratap in Udaipur. After the death of former royal family member and former MP Mahendra Singh Mewar, his elder son Vishwaraj was considered by his supporters as the new Maharana of Mewar dynasty. Raj Tilak program was organized on Monday at Fateh Niwas Palace in Chittor. Former kings, maharajas and former jagirdars from across the country participated. Controversy broke out over the coronation ceremony late in the evening. The family of Arvind Singh Mewar, brother of Mahendra Singh Mewar and uncle of Vishvaraj, closed the doors of Udaipur’s City Palace (Rangniwas and Jagdish Chowk) to stop them from carrying out the tradition.
On the other hand, after the coronation ceremony in Chittorgarh, Vishvaraj Singh reached Udaipur for Dhuni darshan as per Mewar tradition but found barricades on the way to the City Palace. Vishvaraj’s supporters removed the barricades. 3 vehicles entered the palace. A large number of police forces used mild force on the spot. Collector and SP talked to Vishvaraj Singh Mewar sitting in his car for about 45 minutes but no consensus could be reached. Vishvaraj of Mewar and his supporters are adamant on having darshan of Dhuni.
Let us know what is the reason for the dispute in the former royal family of Mewar. First of all let’s talk about today’s controversy.
1. Dhuni Darshan: Along with the announcement of the coronation program, the organizers of the program announced that Vishvaraj Singh Mewar will go to City Palace to see Dhuni after the coronation. City Palace is occupied by Arvind Singh Mewar. Arvind Singh Mewar is the chairman of Maharana Mewar Charitable Foundation Trust. Arvind Singh Mewar published a public notice that Vishvaraj Singh was not a member of the City Palace Trust, hence he would not be allowed to enter the City Palace, but after the coronation, Vishvaraj Singh along with his supporters reached the City Palace for Dhuni darshan. Supporters removed the barricading of City Palace. Vishvaraj entered with a convoy of three vehicles but wanted the entire convoy inside, so the supporters and the police came face to face.
2. Darshan of Ekling Ji
In fact, Maharana of Mewar considers himself the Diwan of Eklingji. Maharana’s stick is handed over by the priest after visiting Mem in this temple, i.e. the stick of rule. In a way, the recognition of Maharana comes from this temple. Vishvaraj Singh wanted to go to the temple after Raj Tilak in Chittor. Eklingji temple is also under this trust, hence Arvind Singh Mewar banned Vishvaraj’s entry into the temple and got barricading done.
According to the latest information, the darshan of Ekling Ji temple closed at 7:45 pm. Due to not being able to enter the City Palace, it is still present at Jagdish Chowk. After Dhuni Darshan, there was a program of Ekling Jee. Haven’t been able to see Dhuni yet.
3. Property Dispute: After Maharana Pratap, there have been 19 Maharanas in Mewar dynasty. In 1930, Bhupal Singh became the Maharana of Mewar. After the death of Bhupal Singh in 1955, Bhagwat Singh became the Maharana of Mewar. He was the last Maharana of Mewar. Bhagwat Singh had two sons and a daughter. Eldest Mahendra Singh Mewar, younger son Arvind Singh Mewar and daughter Yogeshwari. Mahendra Singh is the son of Vishvaraj Singh of Mewar. Vishvaraj is BJP MLA from Nathdhara. His wife Mahima Kumari is BJP MP from Rajsamand. Younger son Arvind Singh has a son Lakshyaraj Singh.
The dispute regarding property had started during the lifetime of Maharana Bhagwat Singh. When Bhagwat Singh started selling and leasing ancestral properties (including Lake Palace, Jag Mandir, Jag Niwas, Fateh Prakash Mahal, City Palace Museum, Shiv Niwas), elder son Mahendra Singh Mewar filed a case against his father in the court. Did. In this case, Mahendra Singh Mewar demanded that the ancestral properties should be divided equally under the Hindu Succession Act, leaving aside the rule of primogeniture.
Actually the Rule of Proimogenital Act was made after independence. There was a rule in this that the eldest son would become the king and all the property would be his but Bhagwat Singh was angry with the elder son Mahendra Singh. He wanted to make his younger son Arvid Singh his successor. That means all the property will belong to Arvind Singh.
Bhagwat Singh replied in the court that all the property cannot be divided, it is indivisible. Bhagwat Singh made his younger son Arvind Singh the executor of his properties in his will on 15 May 1984. Before this, Bhagwat Singh excluded Mahendra Singh Mewar from the trust and property.
Bhagwat Singh died on 3 November 1984. Then most of the feudal lords of Mewar installed his elder son Mahendra Singh on the throne of Mewar and declared him Maharana. Since then, both Mahendra Singh and Arvind Singh have been considering themselves Maharana in Mewar.
Now dispute over three properties:
1. Shambhu Niwas, the royal and palace of the royal family
2. big sail
3. Grass House
After 37 years, in 2020, the court gave a shocking decision in this property dispute. Mahendra Singh Arvind and sister Yogeshwari had equal rights on Shambhu Niwas. All three were given the right to live there for four years. Later, on the petition of Arvind Singh, the implementation of this order was stayed.
