Verdict in RG Kar trainee doctor rape-murder case today: CBI seeks death penalty for the accused; The incident happened on 9th August

After the rape of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, there were protests by doctors and common people across the country.

Sealdah Court will pronounce its verdict today in the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Hospital, Kolkata. CBI had filed a charge sheet against accused Sanjay Rai on 7 October 2024. The court had completed the hearing on January 9. CBI has demanded death penalty for accused Sanjay.

Actually, a trainee doctor was raped and murdered in RG Kar Hospital on the night of 8-9 August. The doctor’s body was found on the morning of 9 August. A civic volunteer named Sanjay was arrested in the case on August 10. Due to this, there were long protests across the country due to anger and resentment.

The CBI, which is investigating this case, had presented a status report in the Supreme Court on December 10 in which it had been told that the hearing is going on every day from Monday to Thursday in the Sealdah Trial Court. Of the 81 prosecution witnesses, 43 have been examined.

Accused Sanjay was a civic volunteer. He was arrested by the police on August 10. The picture is from the same day.

CBI conducted polygraph test of Sanjay On August 25, CBI, with the help of the Central Forensic Team, conducted Sanjay’s polygraph test in Kolkata’s Presidency Jail. The officers questioned him for about 3 hours. Polygraph test of total 10 people including Sanjay has been done so far.

These include former principal of RG Kar Sandeep Ghosh, ASI Anoop Dutta, 4 fellow doctors, a volunteer and two guards.

CBI had said- Trainee doctor was not gang raped CBI had filed a charge sheet in the High Court on October 7, in which Sanjay was named the only accused in rape-murder. Sanjay was working as a civic volunteer with Kolkata Police. The agency said that the trainee doctor was not gang-raped.

The charge sheet included statements of 100 witnesses, 12 polygraph test reports, CCTV footage, forensic report, mobile call details and location. On the day of the incident, the earphones and mobile of the accused were connected through Bluetooth. This was also considered important evidence.

The charge sheet also states that the semen sample and blood found from the victim’s body matched that of the accused. The short hair found at the crime scene also matched the hair of the accused after forensic investigation.

Twist from forensic report, no evidence of struggle on mattress A report of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) has come out on December 24 in the rape-murder case of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College Hospital, Kolkata. In which there are many sensational revelations. The 12-page report said that no evidence was found in the seminar room to show that the victim was raped and murdered there.

In the last lines of the 12th page of the report, it is written – No evidence of conflict was found at the place where the body of the trainee doctor was found. There were no marks of any kind of scuffle found on the mattress on which the dead body was.
