Virat Kohli: Out of top-25 in ICC Test batsman rankings for the first time since 2012.
Virat Kohli ICC Test Ranking: Virat Kohli is currently going through the worst phase of his cricket career, which would be absolutely fair to say. In Team India’s recently concluded 5-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia, Kohli’s performance with the bat was seen to be of low level, in which he was seen continuously losing his wicket on the balls coming out of the off-stump. Virat Kohli managed to play only one century in this series and could score only 190 runs in 9 innings. Earlier, Kohli had a much better record in Tests in Australia, but this time he could not show anything amazing. Virat Kohli has also had to bear the brunt of this poor performance in the ICC Test batting rankings in which he has now fallen out of the top-25.
Out of top-25 for the first time since 2012
Virat Kohli is counted among the great players in Test cricket but his bat does not seem to be proving it completely right at present. Kohli had played innings of 17 and 6 runs in both the innings of the last Test match played at Sydney ground on the tour of Australia, due to which he lost 3 places in the latest ICC rankings released by the ICC on January 8. Due to which Kohli was out of top-25, his rating is also 614. For the first time in Virat Kohli’s Test career since 2012, it has happened that he has fallen out of the top-25 batting rankings. A year before that, Kohli had made his Test debut but after that his bat was seen speaking strongly and he was consistently included in the top-10. Kohli had achieved the best rating of his Test career in August 2018 in which he also occupied the first position. Kohli’s rating at that time was 918, which is the highest rating of any Indian player in Test batting so far.
Virat Kohli’s bad phase with the bat started in the year 2024
In international cricket, from the year 2024, Virat Kohli’s poor performance was seen in all formats, the effect of which was also seen in his ICC ranking. Kohli played a total of 32 international matches in the year 2024 in which he managed to score only 655 runs at an average of 21.83. Before this, in the year 2023, better performance was definitely seen with his bat. During this period, he managed to play only one century and four half-centuries while returning to the pavilion four times without opening the account.
