The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) of Parliament on Thursday submitted the draft report to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla regarding the Waqf (Amendment) Bill. During this, JPC President Jagdambika Pal, Nishikant Dubey and other BJP MPs were present. No opposition MP was seen.
JPC approved the draft report a day earlier. 16 members voted in its favor. At the same time, 11 members protested. Opposition MPs involved in the committee objected to this bill.
AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi said, “We received a 655 -page draft report.” It was impossible to read the 655 -page report in one night. I have disagreed and will oppose this bill in Parliament as well.

10 members were suspended after uproar in JPC Opposition members created a ruckus in the JPC meeting held in Delhi on 24 January. He claimed that he was not given enough time for research on the proposed changes in the draft. It is alleged that the BJP is insisting on presenting the report on the Waqf Amendment Bill in Parliament keeping in mind the Delhi elections.
TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee said that the proceedings of the committee have become a spectacle. The committee suspended 10 opposition MPs including Banerjee-Owaisi for a day.
Report to be presented in budget session, starts from April 4 The Joint Parliamentary Committee will submit its report on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill during the budget session. The budget session of Parliament will start from 31 January and run till 4 April. The Central Budget will be presented on 1 February. The aim of Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 is to solve these challenges by bringing improvements in legal systems to withdraw digitization, better transparency and illegal occupied assets.
The first meeting was held on 22 August Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju introduced Waqf Bill 2024 in the Lok Sabha on 8 August. Opposition parties, including the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, opposed this bill and described it as anti -Muslim.
The bill was sent to JPC without any discussion in the Lok Sabha amidst the objection of the opposition and heavy opposition. The first meeting of the 31 -member JPC on the Waqf Bill Amendment was held on 22 August. 44 amendments were to be discussed in the bill.
