South Africa vs Pakistan: BCCI on Sunday congratulated fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah for completing 200 wickets in men’s Test cricket on the fourth day of the Boxing Day Test against Australia. Bumrah has become the sixth Indian fast bowler to take 200 wickets in men’s Test. Playing his 44th Test match, he achieved this feat when he dismissed Travis Head for one run and raised both his hands in the air in joy. BCCI posted on Twitter, ‘We have confidence in Jassi Bhai only that Boom Boom Bumrah will take 200 Test wickets. He has achieved this feat by taking the big wicket of Travis Head.
No one in the history of Test cricket has achieved this feat with a better average than Bumrah, who averages 19.56, ahead of former West Indies fast bowler Joel Garner, who achieved the feat with an average of 20.34. Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan also praised Bumrah for this historic achievement. He said in his ex-post, ‘The best bowler we have ever had is Jasprit Bumrah. Taking 200 wickets at an average of less than 20, wow.
Bumrah, who made his Test debut in 2018, is also the second fastest bowler in India to reach this feat, where he is now equal to Ravindra Jadeja. Ravichandran Ashwin, who recently retired, is the fastest Indian bowler to take 200 Test wickets, achieving the feat in 37 innings. Bumrah’s IPL team Mumbai Indians said on X, ‘This is not like anyone else.’
In terms of Indian fast bowlers, Bumrah is the fastest, followed by the great Kapil Dev, who took his 200th wicket in his 50th Test match. Overall, Pakistan spinner Yasir Shah is the fastest bowler to reach 200 Test wickets, having achieved the feat in just 33 Tests.
Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer said, ‘The best players in the world do this again and again.’ In terms of number of balls, Bumrah, with 8484 balls, is the fourth to reach the 200 wicket mark in the history of Test cricket after Pakistan’s Waqar Younis (7725), South African duo Dale Steyn (7848) and Kagiso Rabada (8153).
