Baghdad: Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein was tried and hanged on December 30, 2006, in many other cases including the brutal murder of 148 people. This was the period when Iraq’s dominance started increasing in the Middle East. After defeating Iran in 1980 and then Kuwait in 1990, Iraq also deployed troops on the border with Saudi Arabia. Saddam was continuously increasing the weapons of destruction. This was the reason why America supported Saddam in the first place. But later he became his biggest enemy. Ultimately America attacked Iraq in March 2003.
Saddam Hussein was increasing the stock of missiles and chemical weapons, including nuclear weapons. Iraq had become the most powerful country in the Middle East. Earlier, Iraq had attacked and defeated Iran in 1980. However, this war lasted for 8 years and ended in 1988. After this, the courage of Saddam Hussein, who was in power in Iraq for almost two decades, increased further and he attacked Kuwait for increasing the prices of oil and declared it the 19th state of Iraq. Due to this America also came under tension.
America and United Nations created pressure
The United States and the United Nations first asked Iraq to release its occupation of Kuwait and withdraw its troops, but Saddam did not agree. After this, America asked the United Nations for permission to take military action against Iraq. But if many countries are divided then even the United Nations cannot move forward on this. Therefore, America itself started preparing countries like Britain for an attack on Iraq. America began considering Iraq’s increasing weapons of mass destruction as a threat to the entire world. After this, with the support of many countries, America attacked Iraq in March 2003.
Saddam was hanged on 30 December 2006
America attacked and toppled Saddam’s government. But Saddam then escaped. Several months later, American troops arrested him on December 13, 2003. After this he was put on trial for the brutal murder of 148 people. Later on 30 December 2006, he was hanged. After this, a government supported by America was formed in Iraq.
What changed in Iraq after 18 years

After this both the leaders claimed the situation in Iraq to be stable. But this country is still a victim of instability. Terrorist activities and bomb blasts are common here. Last year, in a survey conducted by the international media, 60 percent of the people here believed that the situation in Iraq had gone from bad to worse after the assassination of Saddam Hussein. Whereas 40 percent people believed that the situation in Iraq had improved.
