God has saved me to make America great once again…’ After assuming the office of the President of America, the last two lines of Donald Trump’s speech were the ones which received the most applause. The entire hall echoed with applause. Most of the people present in the hall stood up. However, former President Joe Biden and Kamala Harris sitting nearby remained sitting with helpless smiles on their faces.

Trump had registered a landslide victory over his Democratic Party rival Kamala Harris in the November 5 presidential election. Trump was attacked twice during the election campaign and faced impeachment twice. Four years ago, Trump unsuccessfully attempted to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election to remain in office. His victory in this election was considered the most significant comeback in American political history. Before Trump, J.D. Vance took oath as Vice President.
Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar participated in the swearing-in ceremony as the special envoy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Due to extreme cold in the US capital, the swearing-in ceremony was held in the Capitol Rotunda (central chamber of the Parliament House). Earlier it was planned to be organized in an open space. Trump’s wife Melania, his daughter Ivanka and Ivanka’s husband Jared Kushner and billionaires Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Tim Cook attended the event.
