India and America are continuously building new relations (India-US Relations). There is a good friendship between Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this has been seen on many occasions. The relationship between the two countries can be gauged from the recent swearing-in ceremony of Trump, where India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar was given a place to sit in front of Trump in the first row. If we talk about America’s foreign policy, it also seems to be in the interest of India. Marco Rubio is taking over the responsibility of America’s Foreign Minister in the new Trump government. Now the question is, what does Rubio’s appointment mean for India? What is Marco Rubio’s stance regarding India?
Rubio’s inclination towards India can be felt from many of his statements. As US Secretary of State, he is expected to support policies that promote important partnerships with India. This can be gauged from many of his statements. On the issue of terrorism, he has already said that India is not alone in this fight.

Staunch critic of China, supporter of India
Marco Rubio’s image is that of a staunch critic of China. The latest example of this is the Quad meeting, where they along with India, Australia and Japan gave a strict warning to China. He has been criticizing the unbalanced relationship between America and China in the past also. Like India, his stance towards China has also been aggressive. The special thing is that he is in favor of America’s strong relations with India. He has been advocating a strong partnership between the two countries.

Marco Rubio had also introduced the US-India Defense Cooperation Act in the Senate, which proposed that India be treated at par with other US allies like Japan, Israel and NATO members in terms of technology transfer and military cooperation. One thing became clear from this that he is inclined towards India, which is very important for India in terms of foreign policy.

What kind of relations does Marco Rubio want with India?
One thing became clear from this act of the US Foreign Minister that America’s emphasis is on deepening strategic, economic and military relations with New Delhi. The act introduced by Marco calls for early delivery of additional defense material to India, expansion of military education and training cooperation and formalization of a memorandum of understanding to enhance military cooperation. This clearly shows that Marco will prove helpful for India in terms of relations with America.
Like India, against Pakistan
While Marco’s stance is soft for India, it is very tough for China as well as Pakistan. Especially on the issue of terrorism, his stance is strict towards Pakistan. He had already made it clear that if evidence is found of Pakistan sponsoring terrorism against India, then America will ban it from providing security assistance. He also said that India is not alone in the fight against terrorism. The United States will support its partners to protect their sovereignty and security.
