New Delhi:
Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary participated in the NDTV Emerging Business Conclave. During this, he talked about the government’s priorities related to skills and employment. He said that the biggest thing to be noted is that today we have started talking about skill development. We have started talking about entrepreneurship. Today we have come out of traditions and youth have an important role in every sector.
Today, youth are getting recognition in every field be it policy, social sector, industry or sciences. We are directly related to the youth. There is more emphasis on connecting with the youth.
Government is making startup policy for deep technology
Jayant Chaudhary said that Prime Minister Modi thinks and speaks for the youth on every platform and on every occasion. His vision is inspiring. Prime Minister Modi is opening every closed door for the youth of the country. Today the Government of India is making a startup policy for deep technology.
Need for partnership between states and industry
Further he said that this is a big task. This requires partnership between states and industry. We will need people who have established their work. They are running industrial units…which are institutions of higher education. We need the support of the skilling ecosystem, ITIs, our training partners of Skill Development Scheme and all the institutions.
What will be the impact of increasing demand for AI and technology on jobs?
Amidst the increasing demand for AI and technology, it is being said that jobs that were 10 years old may not be available five years from now. What is the contribution of skilling in this rapidly growing technology era? How can we give such skills to the youth that there will be no problem of jobs even in 5 or 10 years from now? He should be ready to take the workforce of the future…on this he said that there is a truth which many people will find bitter. The course we are doing today may not necessarily be in demand after 10 years, but it does not mean that there is no need to do that course. You have to do this today. But maybe 2 or 4 or 5 years from now you may need upskilling and rescaling yourself.
Demand for short term skill courses has increased, there is a need to close the skill gap.
Jayant Choudhary said, there is a perception that after getting a degree, take admission in college… if nothing is happening then do BA… you will get a job. That situation is no longer there…that time is long gone. Today there is a lot of demand for short term skill courses among the people. Today these youth know where the skill gap is. The Prime Minister has said that if we want to become the global skilling capital, we will have to eliminate that skill gap.
Big corporate companies need to come forward
No big corporate in India can live in complete isolation, they have to connect with the society, they have to solve some of the problems of India. There is a need to work in coordination in every such field.
