What is the mathematics of Jat votes in Delhi, why did Kejriwal play the OBC list card; Understand in 5 points

New Delhi:

Voting for Delhi Assembly elections will be held on 5th February. Meanwhile, preparations have been intensified by all the parties to bring the voters to their side. Both BJP and AAP are trying to attract this vote bank towards themselves. At one time, BJP was getting a major share of Jat votes. However, in the last elections there was disintegration in many seats. The Jat community has a strong social and political network in Delhi. The vote bank of Jat community is considered very effective in Delhi elections. Arvind Kejriwal has launched a major attack on BJP by demanding inclusion of Delhi’s Jats in the OBC list of the Central Government. Let us know why OBC vote bank is important in Delhi.

  • About 10 percent Jat voters in Delhi: The number of Jat voters in Delhi is considered to be around 10 percent. Jat voters are considered decisive in many rural seats of Delhi. There are 8 such seats in Delhi which are Jat dominated. The victory and defeat on these seats has been decided by Jat votes.
  • What has been the mathematics of Jat seats: Aam Aadmi Party currently holds 5 out of 8 Jat dominated seats. Bharatiya Janata Party had won on three seats. BJP is continuously taking steps to woo Jat voters. BJP has also been getting the support of Jat voters in Delhi elections.
  • Jat community has good hold on Delhi politics: The caste equation and religious equation of Delhi have their own political importance. If seen on religious basis, total 81 percent voters are from Hindu community. However, various caste groups have different share in the votes of Hindu community. The biggest influence of Jat community is seen among Hindu voters.
  • Organized Vote Bank:The Jat community generally acts as an organized vote bank. This community generally understands its political strength and votes unitedly, which increases its collective power. When the Jat community votes unitedly in favor of a party, it can influence the election result.
  • Dominance of Jat voters in the villages of Delhi: The dominance of Jat voters is seen in about 60 percent of the villages of Delhi. Jat voters have been deciding victory and defeat on the seats in rural areas of Delhi. Pravesh Singh Verma, son of Late Saheb Singh Verma, former Chief Minister of Delhi, has been made the candidate from the Bharatiya Janata Party for the New Delhi seat. BJP wants to cultivate Jat voters through Pravesh Saheb Singh Verma.

What did Arvind Kejriwal say?
Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of neglecting Jat voters. Kejriwal has said that BJP has committed a big betrayal with the Jat community of Delhi. Jat community comes in the OBC list of Delhi Government. But Jat community does not come in the OBC list of Central Government in Delhi.

Arvind Kejriwal said that when people of Delhi’s Jat community go to take advantage of any scheme of the Centre, they do not get the benefit of reservation. 4 times PM Modi had told the people of Jat community that the Jats of Delhi should not be included in the OBC list of the Centre. The society would have been included but was not.
