On India’s insistence, Interpol issued a red corner notice against him on 25 August 2009. At least more than 40 countries and organizations held him responsible for terrorist activities. However, Pakistan gave him protection for a long time and refused to consider him a terrorist, due to which international pressure increased.
Hafiz Saeed’s role in 26/11 incident
The terrorist attack in Mumbai on 26 November 2008 shook the whole world. In this attack, 10 Pakistani militants infiltrated Mumbai by sea and targeted prominent places like Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Oberoi Trident, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. After the death of 166 people and injuries to hundreds, it became clear that Lashkar-e-Taiba was behind it.
American-Pakistani citizen David Coleman Headley, who was involved in the attack, also confirmed Hafiz’s involvement. Headley had made five trips to Mumbai and helped Reiki to the places of the attack.
