The Hindu community here has been worshiping and doing Girivalam (circumambulation) of the hill on every full moon day.” In such a situation, things like sacrifice should be stopped here.

However, the police, who immediately swung into action, stopped the Islamic group from sacrificing goats and chickens. Police said that only namaz or prayer can be offered at this shrine, sacrifice cannot be made.

BJP state president K Annamalai’s statement has also come in this matter. He wrote on X that some people are calling Thiruparankundram hill as Sikandar Malai (hill). The BJP leader accused the ruling DMK of indulging in Muslim appeasement. He stressed the importance of maintaining peace on Thiruparankundram hill regardless of religious beliefs.

When did the latest controversy start?

The latest controversy in this matter started on December 27, 2024, when some Muslims tried to take goats and chickens for sacrifice at the Thiruparankundram Murugaam temple complex situated on the hills. In this case, Tamil Nadu Police stopped Malaiyadipatti resident Syed Abu Dahir and his family at the bottom of the hill, after which more than 20 Muslims also demonstrated.

After this, earlier this month, more than 100 members of Sikandar Masjid Committee and Aiyakiya Kootamaippu Jamaat had protested demanding permission to open the mosque and offer namaz there, who were also detained by the police. The protesting Muslims claimed on 5 January 2025 that Sultan Sikandar had built the Sikandar Badushah Thozhugai Pallivasal about 400 years ago.

‘Ownership’ of Thiruparankundram Hill near Subramaniam Swamy Temple
