Lauren Powell was born on November 6, 1963 in West Milford, New Jersey. When Lauren was three years old, her father died in a plane crash. He was a pilot. Powell Jobs earned a double degree in economics and political science at the University of Pennsylvania. According to The New York Times, after graduating in 1985, he worked on Wall Street for three years as a trading strategist for Goldman Sachs. He also worked for Merrill Lynch Asset Management.
