In Jhelum, Pakistan, unknown assailants shot and killed the infamous terrorist of Lashkar-e-Taiba, Abu Katal, who was considered the mastermind of many terrorist attacks in India. It is being seen as a big shock for a network of terrorist leader like Hafiz Saeed. The death of Abu Katal has strengthened India’s fight against terrorism. Abu Katal was also known as Katal Singhi or Nadeem, a major terrorist commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LET). He was born in Pakistan and was active in PoK for the last 25 years.
Abu Katal was included in its most wanted list by India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA). He was a person who had become synonymous with terror in Jammu and Kashmir with his cruelty and cleverness. He was not only identified as a terrorist, but he was one of the few people who were considered very close to Hafiz Saeed. The real name of Abu Katal is said to be Nadeem.
What was his relationship with Hafiz Saeed
The relationship between Abu Katal and Hafiz Saeed was not only organizational, but also deep at family and ideological levels. Abu Katal is said to be the nephew of Hafiz Saeed, although it has not been officially confirmed. But it is certain that he was a very close aide of Hafiz Saeed. Hafiz Saeed, the founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba and the head of Jamaat-ud-Dawa. Has been the mastermind of many major terrorist attacks in India. Of these, the 26/11 Mumbai attack is the most talked about, in which 166 people were killed.
Indian agencies were looking for him for a long time
Abu Katal was a big threat to India. He had conspired for many terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir and carried out them.
- Abu Katal’s name was revealed in the attack on a bus of pilgrims returning from Shiv-Khodi temple in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.
- Abu Katal was also found involved in the terrorist attack in Dhangri village of Rajouri district. Seven people including two children were killed in this attack.
- Abu Katal was involved in many other attacks and infiltration incidents in Jammu and Kashmir. Along with providing arms and training to the terrorists, he used to plot to spread panic in India from across the border.
Abu Katal was also involved in the 2023 Rajouri terrorist attack, where terrorists targeted citizens in Dhangri village on 1 January and exploded the IED the next day. Seven people, including two children, lost their lives and many others were injured in coordinated attacks.
The NIA investigation revealed the name of Abu Katal, which revealed the role of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba handlers, who used to send terrorists to cross the border and target citizens, especially the people of the minority community and security forces.
