Kanpur:
The controversy over opening of closed temples in Muslim areas of Kanpur, UP has started deepening. Muslim religious leaders have given a memorandum to the Police Commissioner, accusing the Mayor of disturbing the harmony of the city. Mayor Pramila Pandey openly opposed the allegations of disturbing the harmony made by Muslim religious leaders and said, “Now legal action will be taken and I will send those who have encroached on the temples to jail.” I am sending my letter to the Divisional Commissioner and Police Commissioner. Now he will tell how the temples will be empty. I will keep searching for the temple at any cost, so that whoever can do it can do it.
Kanpur city mayor Pramila Pandey is currently struggling to open the closed temples. Muslim religious leaders have now approached the administration with a complaint against this effort of the Mayor. Under the decision taken in the Ulema Ahle Sunnat Mashavarti Board, a memorandum has been submitted to the Police Commissioner. An appeal has been made that there is no Hindu population in the closed temples, in such a situation, if people come from other areas to worship the idol, it is possible that someone may throw stones, which may spoil the atmosphere of the city.
It was written in the memorandum, “No question has been raised on the intentions of Mayor Sahiba.” She is the mayor of all religions. It is clear in the 1991 Act that the earlier status quo should continue. It was also said in the Babri Masjid decision that the earlier conditions should be maintained.
Pramila Pandey said on this matter, “I have nothing to do with the memorandum given by Muslim religious leaders. Whatever work I do, I do it thoughtfully. Under the Worship Act, the temples which existed before independence, will remain in the same condition. Now I will take legal action.
He said, “I have got 125 temples registered from the Panchshala present in the Municipal Corporation removed. No one says this act of playing with someone’s religion but some people are saying that I want to spoil the harmony. I want to tell them that some of my gods have cut off a hand, someone has slit someone’s throat. Even Shiva’s offering was removed. This is under some law. Now I will take legal action against those who have demolished my temples and will also send them to jail.
He said, “Everyone has seen how the idols have been broken in the temple that was opened recently in Ludhaura. There is a Hindu tenant in a mosque. Who did the work of breaking the idols in our temples? Our statue would have remained intact, they too would have remained intact, who did the work of breaking the statue? 7 Muslims live in Shivala. Now I will file a case. In the temple I have discovered, there were once Ashtadhatu idols, their value was in crores. All I want is to find 125 temples, get them cleaned and hand over the keys to the administration.”
