The reason for Ganga water remaining clean came to light.

Scientists from India as well as from India and abroad were engaged in the search that if the water of river Ganga is kept for many years, it does not get spoiled, what could be the reason behind this. Scientists were also discovering that despite crores of people taking a dip in the Ganga every year on many religious occasions, no disease or epidemic spread from the river Ganga. Even during the last Kumbh, these scientists had gone there and collected its samples. Scientists from the country’s biggest institute, National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), located in Nagpur, have discovered this mystery.

How does Ganga remain clean?

Scientists have revealed that self-cleaning bacteriophages are present in the water of Ganga, which prevent its water from getting spoiled. This information was given by Dr. Krishna Khairnar, scientist of National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) during an exclusive conversation with India TV.

Science has divided it into three phases for its research:

1) Gaumukh to Haridwar

2) Haridwar to Patna
3) Patna to Gangasagar

Three elements of self purification

Dr. Krishna Khairnar has told that the team of scientists had started their investigation by taking samples of Ganga water before the rain and once after the rain. The samples taken by the scientists included Ganga water, soil and sand from the banks of Ganga. Scientists have discovered the element due to which the water of Ganga does not become dirty. Scientists have discovered that three elements of self-purification are hidden in the Ganga. Even during the last Kumbh, scientists had collected samples of Ganga water for research.

Bacteriophages are found in Ganga water

NEERI scientist Dr Krishna Khairnar said that bacteriophages are found in Ganga water, which protect it from getting dirty. In such a situation, there is a need for their conservation. NEERI completed the study of the medicinal properties of river Ganga and the reasons related to its flow path in all three seasons and in three phases. In this, more than 50 sites of Ganga river were examined. In this study that lasted for about 2 years, an effort was made to identify the source of the special properties of Ganga water. The scientific team has found germ-killing bacteriophage in the water of Ganga, which is a type of virus, which works to fight against diseases caused by these pathogenic bacteria. NEERI scientists have also found dissolved oxygen in Ganga water. It remains almost till saturation level. Apart from this, up to 20 ml of oxygen has been found in Ganga water. Scientists have also discovered terpene salt phytochemical. These are the three elements which prove to be effective in purifying the Ganga.

Discovery of special properties in river Ganga

NEERI scientists revised the first round of search between Gaumukh and Tehri Dam. After this amendment, the fact was discovered as to why Ganga is so sacred. Scientists had found that bacteria called bacteriophages are found in the water of Ganga, which do not allow the water of Ganga to get spoiled. Bacteriophage has been found in research in the area from the origin of Ganga to the area of Rishikesh. Bacteriophage are microscopic, which cannot be seen with the eyes. Bacteria called bacteriophages destroy bacteria that pollute water. Scientists had researched samples of Ganga known as Bhagirathi, Alaknanda and Mandakini between Gomukh to Rishikesh. Scientific research has found that Ganga purifies its water itself. The team of scientists has discovered the special properties found in the Ganga River from its source to the Hooghly River. Scientists had also examined water samples from Tehri Dam. Team scientist Dr Krishna Khairnar said that for investigation the team had taken samples up to a depth of 250 meters from the dam site.

Self purifying elements in Ganga

Regarding the tests conducted by scientists during Kumbh, Dr. Krishna Khairnar said that self-purifying elements are hidden in the Ganga. The government makes a lot of arrangements during the royal bath during Kumbh. Crores of people take bath in the Ganga. Even after crores of people take bath, Ganga returns to this position after some time. Ganga has the power to clean its own filth. Crores of people take bath together, yet at a distance of 5 kilometers from the place where people take bath, the condition of Ganga looks completely pure and pure. And wherever people take bath, Ganga purifies itself in this manner in three-four days. NEERI scientists told that in 1896, a scientist named Hacking had also reported that Ganga water performs antibacterial action.
