Kerala nurse Nimisha Priya’s death sentence in Yemen is getting closer. Every passing day is no less than a terror for his family. After the President’s approval of the death sentence, there seems to be little hope of pardon. But a small ray of hope still remains in the minds of the family. Nimisha’s husband Tommy Thomas is still hopeful that his wife may be saved from hanging at the last moment. Speaking to TOI, he said that he has not slept since the President gave the order. He is praying.

Will Kerala’s daughter be saved from hanging?
Nimisha Priya’s husband says that he has been told that the death penalty will be carried out within a month of the President’s approval. He cannot even imagine living without Nimisha. Nimisha’s husband Tommy Thomas drives an auto rickshaw in Thodupuzha, Idukki. Ever since the President has approved the punishment, he is very sad. But he is hopeful of getting pardon at the last moment.
Nimisha’s mother Prema Kumari had made an emotional appeal to the Government of India to make every possible effort to save her daughter. The Ministry of External Affairs had also issued a statement saying that it is aware of the matter and will provide all possible help.

Nimisha’s husband Tommy says that mistakes may have been made. But for this he has demanded forgiveness from the family of victim Talal Abdo Mahdi for his wife. Nimisha may still be saved if Mahdi’s family and community leaders in Yemen accept blood money in exchange for amnesty.
How can Iran help?
A senior Iranian official on Thursday assured all possible help from Iran in the case of nurse Nimisha Priya. “We will raise this issue,” the Iranian official told reporters. It seems he has been charged with culpable homicide. “We will do whatever we can in this matter on humanitarian grounds.”
Is there any way for last minute forgiveness?
The last way to save Nimisha from hanging is blood money. If the family of deceased Abdo Mahdi accepts the amount of blood money, then Nurse Priya can be saved. This is the last option left. Actually, according to the law of Yemen, there is a provision to give blood money. If Mahdi’s family agrees to blood money, then Nimisha’s death sentence can be postponed. Blood money is a kind of compensation. This is a fixed amount which is given to the victim’s family by the culprit.
What is the allegation against Namisha Priya?
Nimisha Priya is in jail in Yemen since 2017. He is accused of murdering a Yemeni citizen. The family is still holding out hope that the daughter might be saved from going to the gallows. Nimisha had gone to Yemen from Kerala to earn money. After working in a private clinic there, he wanted to open his own clinic, but this was not possible according to the rules of Yemen. After which he took the help of his friend Talal Abdo Mahdi. But the partnership between the two did not work out well.
It is alleged that Mahdi cheated and tortured Nimisha. His passport was taken away. To take this back, Nimisha injected Mahdi with unconsciousness. But he died due to overdose. In this case, nurse Nimisha has been sentenced to death.
