Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh has trailed 0-1 after the first match.
Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh has lost the first match of the ongoing World Chess Championship in Singapore. He was defeated by defending champion Ding Liren. After this defeat, the Indian stars have lagged 0-1 in the match that lasted 14 matches. This is the first time in the history of the World Chess Championship that two Asian players are competing against each other to become the world champion.
18 year old Gukesh started with white pieces. He made a mistake early in the game by moving the king’s front pawn two houses. Liren responded with ‘French Defence’. Gukesh adopted the same strategy that Vishwanathan Anand had used when he won his first World Championship title against Spain’s Alexey Shirov in 2001.
Gukesh had an advantage of half an hour till the 12th move, but after 8 moves Liren got extra minutes, which proved that he had overcome his initial challenge. After this he made a strong comeback and won in 42 moves.

There will be 14 rounds in the final match There will be 14 rounds in the final, with tiebreakers if necessary. Gukesh and Ding will get 1 point for winning a game and 0.5 points for a draw. 7.5 points are needed to win the championship. If the score remains tied after 14 rounds, the winner will be declared through tiebreakers with faster time control.
Eyes on Gukesh, if he wins he will become world champion In this match, all eyes will be on young D Gukesh, if he succeeds in defeating world champion Ding Liren of China, he will become world champion. He will become the second Indian to do so. Vishwanathan Anand has become a 5-time world champion.
Gukesh won the Candidates Chess Tournament in Toronto in April. He became the youngest player (17 years) to do so. Before Gukesh, Russian player Garry Kasparov had won this tournament in 1984 at the youngest age of 22.
Who is D Gukesh? Gukesh D’s full name is Domaraju Gukesh and he is a resident of Chennai. Gukesh was born on 7 May 2006 in Chennai. He started playing chess at the age of 7. He was initially coached by Bhaskar Nagaiah.
Nagaiah has been an international level chess player and is a home chess tutor in Chennai. After this, Vishwanathan Anand gave coaching to Gukesh along with giving him information about the game. Gukesh’s father is a doctor and mother is a microbiologist by profession.

World Chess Championship- Final between Gukesh and Liren from today
The World Chess Championship final will start from today i.e. 25th November. The championship is being held at the Aquarium Hotel in World Sentosa, Singapore. The final match will be played between current world champion Ding Liren and Gukesh of India.
