- National Anti Doping Agency Suspends Wrestler Bajrang Punia For Four Years

National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has suspended wrestler Bajrang Punia for four years. Punia had refused to give his sample for dope test during the selection trials of the national team on March 10, due to which action was taken against him.
Punia, who won the silver medal in the Tokyo Olympics, was earlier temporarily suspended on April 23. After this, the World Wrestling Organization (UWW) also took action against him. Poonia had appealed against this suspension, after which it was canceled till May 31.
After this, NADA issued a notice to Poonia on June 23. Poonia challenged this decision on July 11, after which hearings were held on September 20 and October 4. Now in its order the NADA Doping Panel (ADDP) has continued his four-year suspension.
Brij Bhushan was accused of sexual exploitation
Wrestlers had accused former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual exploitation of female wrestlers. In this regard, there was a movement under the leadership of Bajrang, Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik from 18 January 2023. The wrestlers first staged a protest at Jantar Mantar.
After this, on his petition, the Supreme Court gave order on 23 April 2023 and Delhi Police registered a case against Brij Bhushan. The hearing of this case is going on in the court.

Bajrang Punia played Asian Games without giving trials
Punia had lost in the semi-finals of the Hangzhou Asian Games in China last year. Not only this, even in the bronze medal match, Punia was defeated 10-0 by Japanese wrestler Yamaguchi. After his defeat, many people were furious on social media, because he had not participated in any competition before participating in the Asian Games.
Bajrang was also criticized for including him in the Indian squad for the Asian Games without giving him trials.
Won gold in Commonwealth Games- 2022
Poonia won the bronze medal in Tokyo Olympics (2020). He won the gold medal for India in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. In the final of men’s free style 65 kg weight category, Poonia defeated L. of Canada. McLean was defeated 9-2. This was Poonia’s second consecutive gold medal and third overall in the Commonwealth Games. However, after this gold he could not do anything special.
Padmashree award was returned due to WFI elections
Bajrang Punia had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and announced to return the Padmashree award. In this letter, Poonia had expressed his opposition to the victory of Sanjay Singh, close to Brij Bhushan, on the post of President of the Indian Wrestling Association.
When WFI elections were held, Sanjay Singh, close to Brijbhushan, won the elections. After this, apart from Poonia, Vinesh also returned her awards on 23 December.

Joined Congress before Haryana Assembly elections
Bajrang Punia had joined Congress along with wrestler Vinesh Phogat before the Haryana Assembly elections and was given the charge of All India Kisan Congress. At the same time, Vinesh has been elected to the Assembly from Julana in Haryana.
